Nothing Kit car related but they are building cars so its nearly there..........
I know it's in the wrong forum but this is my most active area. Has anybody watched Chop Shop on sky. I have just watched it and cant believe the S**T that they are churning out. Leepu and that Cockney bloke have 2 braincells between them and the mechanics and panel beaters seem brain dead aswell. I spent most of the program trying to work out if the whole thing was a wind up or not. When you watch Overhaulin you see how it's meant to be done and how a real "artist" comes up with a design. (chip Foose). If the guys from Overhaulin were to watch that program they would lay about PI**ING themselves laughing. I'm frankly embarassed for the program and the people involved.
They had some stupid (looked like 6" deep) alloy wheel spacers made up and they measured them wrong about seven times. They were measuring them with a tape measure...(Dohhh). Then, when they didn't fit they could not work out why. (DUMB A**ES). Eventually the toolmaker making the spacers was given the correct sizes and they were made. He also gave him a digital vernier to measure things "Accuratly" in the future, which he preceded to call a Digital Micrometer. (Completely different thing) UTTER TW*T.
RANT OVER.
Please tell me someone else thinks the same!!!!!!!!

Chop Shop sums it up. How any of those things are allowed on a public highway is a mystery to me. Whilst the 'design' of the things is a matter of personal taste, the 'engineering' isn't. Just hope none of the PTB see it or they'll be thinking it's representative of what the kit market in general is up to.
Ive seen it. It is quite frankly pathetic and embarassing to watch. They build cars out of bog and snotty welds, old pieces of scrap cars and soft sheet metal. They cant weld, they cant fabricate, they cant design. Bernie is a tool and that leepu is a complete and utter plank. It also gets me how they go mad on test drives as if its the best thing they have ever driven. Its a program made for people lacking brancells as is films such as the fast and the furious.
In addition I agree with your statement about overhaulin'. Such a vast contrast, they churn out works of art and chip foose is exactly what that waste of space leepu can never aspire to be.

I'd love to know the method they use to finish their cars.
Just check any thread on the costs involved in making a set of kit car molds. The buck (the body that you take the molds off) is usually a very very messy, time consuming and ruinously expensive thing to do.
Yet these guys seem to make a reasonably finished (as in finish, not styling) and rolling/driveable body every time they take on a project.
The cars they make are typically made of junk parts and don't sell for mega money IIRC so the cost must be fairly similar to getting a kit car buck done plus the profit plus the cost of the car and bits they started with.
What's their method?

The whole thing HAS to be a pish take, but they do appear to actually produce cars for influential people, and those said people do drive them, so the whole thing is a mystery. In addition I agree with your statement about overhaulin'. Whatever, the butchery and carnage they inflict on their junk is pathetic/frustrating/infuriating to watch, for anybody with even an inkling of mechanical expertise.
Agree...
Overhauling is such a total contrast but...why, oh, why do they have to do the prank stuff? Very impressed to see Chip Foose actually work a design sketch up - the man defintiely has some skills to say the least and the end result is hugely impressive given the timescales involved even when you account for the shear number of people involved.
The other "guilty pleasure" has to be American Chopper - the fabrication on some of those bikes is superb...

the johnny vegas golf is quite funny if anyone has seen it!
...it's ******* hilarious.... They got it all running then made it look like utter turd!It would have been a good concept to just leave it as a Golf, but instead they made it into a ridiculous noddy car that no body would want to seen in or near!
I only saw this once. They were building an MGB to race at the Brighton Speed Trials. They took a perfectly useable MGB and some bright spark decided the fron end was not "aerodynamic" enough for a 1/4 mile sprint. SO they spent about 100 man hours chopping and shaping the front to give it a flat nose, not realising that an MGB would probobly not go fast enough in 1/4 mile to make any aerodynamic difference. And it didnt dissapoint in that department. Not forgetting they drove it through a Ripspeed showroom en route to Brighton. Truly awful. At then end of it, the poor MGB looked like some refugee from pimp my ride and was practically worthless. Genius TV.
.........Can't understand why none of you get it? It's a right laugh! An eccentric car designer from Bangladesh and a wheeler dealer cockney geezer. Light entertainment..........
ah so the recipe for light entertainment is: find incompatible people, or at least folks with widely differing views who are not backward in letting everyone know their views however daft. give them an impossible timeframe / situation, add in some clearly staged crisis, wait for some confrontation ideally with a degree of swearing. Genius .....perhaps not, just the same cr$p forumla that so many TV programs follow. 1st series from Bangalore was definitely interesting, the 1st series from over here was entertaining as it was still fresh. subsequently its painful - and a joke ( a tired one that invokes a groan as opposed to a hearty laugh) - let's take a 944 rework the body into something that actually looked ok and do nowt to the engine and wonder why it isnt very quick, oh and while we're at it we'll change the autobox to a manual 'cos in the words of the wise man from bethanl green ' that'll free up another 12bhp' - mmm that'll make all the difference then!

Sounds like you've watched a few before you've decided that you don't like it.
