We used to have one of those! My dad bought it for me for a few hundred quid to tinker with when I was at school about 15 years ago. If you squinted at it through a beer glass it could look vaguely like a GT40. OK, a very dirty beer glass.... But it wasn't trying to be a copy of one at least.
An issue on ours was the Beetle floorpan with low driving position which meant to drive it comfortably you needed really short legs and really long arms.
We never got it back on the road though, and sold it on to someone who did a full restoration, fitted an Alfa engine (I think), sprayed it yellow and it subsequently had a review in one of the kit mags.
It was a fun introduction to the kit scene though, and there aren't many around now.

Hi, this one is red with "viper" stripes, looks like a later non beetle chassis. Front is a GT40 "copy" rear is almost possibly better than a GT40 or at least less agressive, more Ferrari ish. Except for the ugly engine hatch.
looks like its been there a while judging by the tarpaulin colour. Abandoned project????

I used to have one too.
Ran it for a while on Beetle running gear. It was yellow with black 'cobra stripes' but I had big plans for it. Built a 1600 Ford X-flow on twin Webbers and bought an adaptor plate to bolt it to the VW box, Bought 'Alan Mann' arches for the rear to make it more 'GT40 like' and bought some HUGE 5-spoke Revolution wheels.
The image in my mind was something quite special but I didn't have the talent or the cash to make it happen so it sat in the front garden untouched for months until it was bought by an ex-Jaguar engineer who did everything I'd planned for it and made it in to a very nice car. The only thing I didn't like was that he fitted a sunroof to it. He tracked it and drove it pretty hard and sent me a newspaper cutting of a piece that had been written about it.
Nice looking car.
