Can i register a kit car in UK if i`m not UK resident?

Hello,
I intend to buy a kit car, RH or another Seven replica but i have a BIG problem.
Those idiots from my local DVLA cant tell me if i can register the car in my country (Romania)
and the final answer will be probably NO!.
I wonder if i can buy the car and register on my name in UK?
I will pay all the taxes to UK authoryties but i live in Romania.
I supposed being a EU citizen may help.

I think you'll find that the car has to be mainly kept in the UK. But I'm not sure. Certainly, if you import a car to the UK, it is not legal to leave it on foreign plates. Perhaps you should post in speed law & the plod.

you need to have a permanent address in the uk to do so. My car is registered in the UK and taxed and MOT'd for a year but I drive it in Germany. Its up to local laws if they want you to change the registration to romania.

Why should the DVLA know about the registration regulations in Romania? I'm not a lover of civil servants, but I think you're being unreasonable.

You can only register a car in the UK with a UK address, and you will need UK insurance to get it registered.
A UK insurer will only insure a UK registered car, with a UK address (insurance law; not them being awkward). There are exceptions, but they are all to do with importing, not exporting.

Isn't it possible to contact the Romanian equivalent of the DVLA and ask them the question?

Depending on how long you are planning on staying in the UK why don't you enjoy the car while your here then sell it on before you go home?

I think the OP may have meant that the asked his local equivalent of the DVLA in Romania, not the UK body.
