IVA for three wheelers ?
Discussion
Just rang VOSA.
They confirm MSVA rules still applicable to three wheelers.
Quads, however, they say now come under IVA rules (still not sure they gave correct reply to this as quads previously came under MSVA rules as well)
Now need a copy of MSVA rules so I can ensure my microcar design complies

Does this mean a three wheeler will require a bike licence to drive? I am very interested in a three wheeler, as an entry level kit car, but never got around to taking my bike test, and this would be a significant hurdle to the project.
As long as your licence included a B1 entitlement then you can drive a three wheeler under 550kg. I think B1 is an automatically given with full car test/licence.http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensi...

I am an old fart, so passed my test over 20 years ago... and I have no B1 entitlement.
Do you still have old style licence ?
It doesen't list three wheelers as a seperate entitlment. Rather it say you can drive any motorvehicle OTHER than bikes and includes 3w's automatically with 4w car
I passed my bike test in 1974 so already had 3 wheelers before I took car test in 1979. I've just checked my wifes licence. She passed her car test in 1976, has no bike licence yet still has three wheeler entitlement.
