Hi there

I am looking into buying a Ford GTD40 replica following a visit to the silverstone classic. I've seen a couple of cars that I like the look of but don't really know loads about GT40's and the GTD replicas. The cars I am looking at were both built in the mid 90's and have ford 5l 302 engines.

So here are my initial questions

1) Will I fit in one? I am 6ft 2" tall but understand there a bit tight for space
2) How reliable are these cars/engines? Are they straight forward to maintain, run and look after?
3) How well rated are the GTD replicas and how close to an original are they?
4) Are there any good clubs (uk based if possible) or forums that I could join to find out more info.

Thanks

Trev

From when I looked into buying one, I believe that the GTD is okay but bettered by the Tornado ones (at the budget end of the market, I'm not considering the high end continuation market). Also, I think GT Developments no longer exists so parts may become an issue?

Certainly I found enough to make me want the Tornado instead (I think the seating position etc is enhanced and the car more accurate dimensionally).

By the way, this might all be bull - if someone with more knowledge comes along to correct me, I won't be upset wink

I guess you are looking at the blue and white cars at Total Head Turners? wink The colour schemes put me off to be honest - they've been on there a while though so haggle hard...save enough to get a nice Gulf respray!

The Tornado ex-show car is for sale by the way (red with all the extras) but I haven't seen it advertised anywhere. There's a for sale thread on it on the forum mentioned in the post above though...

At six foot two myself (34 inside leg) I can honnestly say yes you can fit in a GT40 replica. Can't wear a helmet so I couldn't track day the car without having door bulge. I did see a GT40 with removable pannels in the tops of the doors for when the owner wore a helmet but that was in Australia.
