Hi,briefly ill explain my predicament. had a bike accident last year stopped breathing messed my leg up, promised my mum i'll not get another bike. Bought a clio williams track car. Does'nt even remotely compare to the acceleration from a bike. Recently seen a kit car with pistonheads stickers and yamaha racing decals accelerating through astley, Manchester. The blokes face was wobbling like clarksons when he drove the arial atom. Decided that should be my next move. Any help and opinions on these would be much appreciated.
Regards Jack

Nothing will match a bike for accelration and what it feels like accelerating, but a BEC is as close as you will realistically get to the feeling n 4 wheels.

They are fantastic fun, especially on track, but your mum won't like it smile MY mum doesn't! lol

For balance, and to spark of the debate again hehe , Z-Cars CTR powered mini demonstrator (with a few mods ~ 255bhp) felt quicker two-up than my 'Bird powered westy 1-up. Obviously you don't get the seq. box etc. but it was a VERY VERY quick car. Their (space framed silhouette car) is substantially quicker than most Becs on track.

BEC doesn't always equate to faster or necessarily cheaper.

I have been to Zolder with Chris Allanson in that Mini. It is mightily fast but it is also £20k+ to build a Type-r mini properly. He was selling it used for £14k. The monte carlo mini is not a mini at all, it is a proper space framed racing car with silhouette body that happens to look like a mini, at £30-40k. I am sorry but a BEC IS just about the cheapest way to go very fast with minimal running costs. There, I said I was not going to get involved anymore .......

I have a BEC (Mk Indy with R1 engine) and on the track day I just completed on Sunday it was I reckon the equivalent of a Caterham R300, as it was keeping up with them. The R500 however was in a different league altogether!

Yep, I think the R500 is a class above, but so are the running costs! £10k+ for an replacement engine yikes And about £6k for a scheduled rebuild every 12,000 road miles yikesyikes

£6k would keep me in R1 engines until my retirement, and I am only 36!!!

As an aside (and not wishing to start an argument, I ride a bike and am building a bec) but my old v8 westfield could keep up with some superbikes (at the time, they keep getting faster) to about 100 and almost gave the same feeling as a powerful bike. However, it drank fuel like no tomorrow and didn't have that rev happy feel that a bike engine has.

Yeah wasn't saying they were the fastest thing on 4 wheels but just the speed they go and how they go ie. the revs!

Cheers for all your opinions, definetly think a bec is the way forward for me, anyone wanna sell me one?
someone off here contacted me with a westfield with a sierra cosworth engine in it so gonna go see what thats like first but im thinking 11995 is a bit pricy for a car with an old sierra engine in it, but ill see what its all about.
Is there anything major to watch out for when buying one of these as have seen prices vary quite dramatically, also spoke to a guy with a westfield running a vauxhall redtop engine and he said that would be just as quick. Like the revvyness and pitch of bike engines more though.

Always check the chassis and suspension components for rust. Virtually without exception KC chassis' are shoddy when it comes to durable coatings. If you've got serious rust you could be looking at a strip and rebuild. Some are better than others, even within the same model.

The other tip is drive a lot. KCs, because they are very light, with comparatively wide tyres, are EXTREMELY susceptible to set-up.
