Thought this might amuse the kitcar cognoscenti!

I guess he had to replace a lot of parts over the 26 years?
Seriuosly..........
This should be reported to ebay because some poor innocent buyer will end up passing over hard earned cash. Unless you are into kitcars you they may not understnd what is going on. It's jokers like this that gets the industry a bad name.

I'm not sure that ebay would take much notice, it's not really misdescribed. Is it really one for the DVLA?Seriuosly..........

I'm prepared to be laughed at for asking this question, so here goes. To get my defence in first, I just drive a kit car, I don't understand the intricacies of registration.

I can see what the guy's doing here. My question is, why doesn't he just register it as a new build? Is it because it won't get through the IVA ?

This would be the presumption, yes. He has bought a Dutton logbook (maybe with some Dutton bits which have since been scrapped or sold on) and has had registration plates in that number made, has fixed those plates to his untested Robin Hood, and is using that identity to tax and MOT the car.Blib said:

It's much cheaper and quicker to illegally ring a car than to prepare it for IVA + the extortionate cost of the IVA test itself. Of course it does open up the possibility of landing yourself in a big pile of poo with the law......nothing unusual i think....a dutton died..a robin was born.
even classic (kit)car dealers are "selling" old V5´s from cars wich have been scrapped to make "younger" models road legal without the necessity to pass an SVA or today the IVA test.
when you go to a Cobra meeting and would ask the owners to show the V5´s or similar documents in other countries you´ll find that these cars often run on jaguar, scimitar or even 2CV logbooks.

"Often" ?I must have told you a thousand times about exaggerating.
Very rare in the UK nowadays and frowned upon by the kit Cobra community in general.

The disapproval of the Kit/Cobra community would absolutely pale into insignificance with the World of S*** that would result if you were involved in an accident where the Police or insurance companies were involved, even if the ringing/mechanical condition of the car was not a contributary factor to that situation or the driver was the innocent party re the collision,I would predict huge amounts of hassle getting any kind of insurance in the future, also a surprising number of policemen are knowledgable about Kitcars and would see that the actual vehicle didn't match the info displayed on their screens, similar result.
The replacement chassis argument/ignorance of the law would be no excuse either,at least the guy who listed it on eBay couldn't be accused of misrepresentation or dishonesty!!

the whole kitcar registration is a bit "special" and a balancing act not being illegal!!
the only country where its possible to built a new car and retain (whyever) an old registration, incl. an old date of 1st registration is the UK.
thats the reason buyers from outside UK are so interested in purchasing kitcars which are 30y or older in the paeprwork, whereas the stupidest person knows that these cars are built e.g. somehwere in the 90ies, using some donor parts from an "old" car...but the chassis is new, the body is new, the engine has been upgraded to a modern one since the built...
there are plenty of kits in UK with an old registration on the paperwork which have been already a shaddy deal from the beginning.
the days are numbered until the EC harmonization will bring this to an end.
