I'm thinking of something like the MEV Sonic7 or Sylva Spectre - a mid-engined 7.
The MEV looks like great value for money.
Anything else I should be considering?

The Sylva R1OT is probably the closest thing to a mid engined Seven I'd say.

A bit off topic but does anyone know of a mid engined kit car that uses a longitudinal 4cyl or v6 drivetrain. Most of them I find are transverse engine of designed for a big v8 etc. Thinking and planning of a road/trackday project.

Actually it was in the list as I though Sylva were still making them, then checked and found it missing from the Sylva webby so took it out!

The SDR VStorm uses the Subaru boxer and gearbox.

Actually, I wasn't, I'm afraid. This started off as a thread about 7-like mid-engined cars, rather than any mid-engined cars, so I didn't read it after a few days. Sorry about that!

However, I'm here now!

There are a number of examples on the Aeon Owners Club - http://www.aeonownersclub.com/, or if you want to see how I built mine, http://aeon.tribbeck.com/

ETA: scooby8272 (aka Justin) - I didn't realise that was you (you don't often pop your head up here!)

Good point - actually I'm veering towards something pretty rather than just functional, so asking for mid-engine 7 equivalents was probably misleading.
The Aeon looks great.

Corse GTE Group 5 Stratos replica is longitudinal engined.

http://www.superstratos.com/corse_car.html

Has an extended wheelbase compared to the standard Stratos to make it less twitchy on Tarmac.

Not a cheap kit, but a Stratos will tend to hold its price well.

How about the Fisher Fury Menace? Mid mounted bike engine.

Just out of curiosity, why a mid engined specifically, most decent front engined cars are near 50/50 weight distribution, unless you weigh the same as Posh Spice.
