Hi everyone, just thought id share with you this experience i have had buying a Mac1 fireblade that is advertised "for sale" on pistonheads classified ads
so i ring up the seller at weekend to look at the light blue mac1 fireblade for sale and told it is sold so i start looking at others, i keep checking everyday and find another i like only to see the blue one i want back up for sale,
so i ring the seller on the off chance it could still be for sale, and indeed other guy who has said he would buy it cant raise the money, it was up at £7500 so i offer £7200 unseen as its a bit of a drive away but i have the cash and want the car, the seller then agrees the deal, i arrange that im going to go down on the wednesday (yesterday) to buy it if its as described and drive it away. i got the reg number and told the seller i was going to arrange the insurance so that i could drive away, i then pay for insurance and ring seller to say its defo on and i was coming that night and paid a driver(friend) to meet me at my house at 7.15 pm to drive down in me other car to buy Mac1,
now bearing in mind we had agreed a deal, i had paid for and arranged insurance and i had tanked my car up and arranged someone to come to my house you would think i was all set.........
get a phone call at 7.10pm exactly to be told he has sold the car to someone else who has rang up half an hour ago!!!!!
well so much for ethics and being right with people i thought it was disgusting maybe im being harsh but im livid!

No wonder it sold so quick, its at least a £1000 under priced, looks like someone has beat you too it,flashed the cash and paid the full asking price.

I'd be fuming too. But I had a similar experience when selling my Carlos Sainz celica GT-four. A guy from Belfast phoned me, saying "I want it, I want it! Hold it for me, i'll pay full asking price, building it into a classic rallycar, I am going to fly into Gatwick Airport next Saturday, booked my flight landing 13.00 blah blah blah....." I put off 2 potential buyers saying it was provisionally sold, but surprise surprise no phone call to collect from airport and no answer on the phone for weeks after. Selling cars is harsh, and you cannot really refuse a sale under your nose. I'd be as miffed as you, BUT i have also been on the other side of the fence.
To late now I guess but next time fire over a couple of hundred paypal deposit ? Most people have a paypal account these days, or BAC's ?
Guess that doesn't help though if when you get there the cars a duffer ?
Anyhow, we searched months for our tin top, got let down similar to you once during the search, guess what, yup we got a better one soon after, it all happens for a reason ?

I had to pay 200 quid deposit becasue I could not get it for a week. The sell was getting frustrated at the amount of calls comin from the add so he wanted to make sure I wanted and mark it up as sold. Obviously I was true to my word and did the deal. Glad I put a deposit down now. Would of been p*ssed if I missed out!!

Exactly the philosophical view I take when these things happen - Inevitably the new owner will turn up on this or another site asking how to fix the blown engine or the mangled gearbox. If the seller was up to those sorts of sharp practices did you really want to buy a car from him? Andrew
