Duratec & gearbox Question
Discussion
Hi I am planing a new project.
It's a camper van as it happens rear wheel drive of course.
The plan is to fit a a Duratec V6 engine.
I was thinking Mondeo what is the best/easier/cheepest one to go for 2.5 or 3.0? model year type etc????
I was thinking of getting a salavage car as I want all the gubbins the ecu, wiring loom, A/C etc
And also what rear wheel drive box should I go for, something that bolts straight on with minimum fuss would be great.

It isn't easy, although aftermarket bell housings are now available as Morgan now fit them.
Mine is running a Cosworth T5 with modified cosworth bellhousing and custom adapter plate.
To be honest if you are planning on running it standard even a late ST24 will only give 168bhp and would suggest it isn't worth the hassle or extra expense over a good four pot. If you go aftermarket ECU and the ST200 or St220 it starts to make sense as good BHP is available.

It is mid engine as it happens but I thought being a ford it would be widely used in Kits and hence easy.
One of the main reasons it isn't used much is because of the lack of RWD gearboxes. The Jag S type uses a Duratec derived engine, and the box from this will bolt up to a Duratec with a bit of fettling. Or better still use the complete Jag engine and box.I agree with james am curently trying to do something simular useing a st200 engine in to my G26 I have the entire loom from the donor but a few things like the imoboliser and abs are still to be removed I still want to have the option of tc ,call it a chicken button if you like
am also having problems finding parts as its not very widely used
mite a porshe g50 transaxle fit ?
from a 944 I think ?

Clive it a bit more fun than a tow car, by the time I am done you should be making V10 engine chassis and we can start all again
I have to say I am leaning more and more to the VX set up as I want to keep the cost down and I'm looking for something that will drop straight in with min fuss.
The question is now how new do I go to get the power and fuel figures, before I get all the problems with the new electric's.
Did VX do a good V6 that stands out in your mind?

I can't use the noble set up.
When I say it's a mid engine I mean the engine sits behind the seats in the front, so I need a longish prop too.
VX is looking like the best way.
AHA so it needs to be longitudal?... so why go for the V6.. why not something equally cheap but bigger? When I say it's a mid engine I mean the engine sits behind the seats in the front, so I need a longish prop too.
