I’ve had a Westfield for 3 or 4 years now. And am using it more and more on track days.

I’m thinking of a change, both for something more track day focussed, and also because I’ve had this car for a while now and just fancy a change.

Just interested in the opinions of guys who have had experience of different 7 type cars.

Westfields seem to command the highest price, with a like for like spec.

There seems to be quite a few nearly new MNR Vortexs for sale regularly, is this a good or bad thing ?

My car is Vauxhall red top engined, ford 5 sp gear box. Fancy the idea of a bike engine car, mainly for the sequential box.

I have been looking at Westfields, MNRs Vortex, MK Indys and Mac1. But no real preference for any manufacturer.

If budget were no issue, I’d probably look at a Caterham R400/500, but £20k+ is more than I want to invest in something to just thrash round a track then stick in the garage over the winter.

A R1 \ GSXR \ ZX10 powered kit car is about the same as a Caterham R300. For R500 speeds you need 1300cc bikes and a good set up.

Dumb question, as I am no expert on text type, my Prep School did not allow such speak, but what does EFA mean???????????

And I have only ever witnessed a Type R Indy from afar, but MY GOD it looked quick.

Most of the R300/400/500's I've seen have been driven by people who like to polish and look at them and rarely drive them hard enough, even on a track day. Often their big watches get in the way of the gearchange which is understandable wink

That's true enough.

Caterhams in general tend to have a higher-than-usual proportion of 'all the gear, no idea' types amongst their owners, but it would take a hell of a BEC 7 to lap a circuit faster than a current R500 in the hands of someone who does know how to drive it!

Not saying it can't be done, but if you think that any 'Seven' type kit with a stock 'Busa engine in it will be able to compete with an R500 driven by someone of equal ability, then you're in for a nasty shock!

You're right, an R500 driven by somebody competent should beat a busa 7. Mine would blitz an R500 but would need to stop for petrol on the fourth lap so allowing the R500 to get past frown

striker's always had a great reputation for being track stars. Other than that I would go for a megablade

Another vote for the Mk Indy R,a serious bit of kit,and a great value for money kit,I watched a busa powered one lap Cadwell Park in 1m 35s,with still more to come as it was his 1st time there with the car.

You would want to take a good look at how sturdy any of these cars would be in a prang, I'm running a Westfield with a full cage on it for trackdays and saw another se7en virtually fold in half at Anglesey a couple of moths ago. It went of on a slow-medium speed corner and int a wall with the kind of impact that I would expect to walk away from and they had to cut the guy out with cracked ribs frown . I've taken a look at some other se7ens with full cages and they have been mounted to floor panels or bolted to thin tube frames with little or no bracing - not nice at all.

Also worth thinking that if you fancy a sequential you can always get one to fit to your current car......

Keep looking at MNRs, theres a few nice looking ones in the classifides. ANyone got exprerience of these. Havent come across one omn atrack day yet.

t11ner - Think I must have been at Anglesey on the same day as yourself. Was there when the guy smashed his green and silver 7 type into the pit wall. Your not the guy in the Blue and Silver Westfield are you ? I was in a red Westfield. I'm also thinking a full cage is the way to go on what ever I go for next.

Cheers, Garry

Marc (Marc Norden Racing) is a ex BTCC racer they did dabble in RGB a couple of seasons back, don't think they have raced recently, could be wrong on that one though as I have lost contact with RGB scene since I ran out of £££'s myself.

MNR's are very capable track toys though, as is the Indy R.
