Hi. I'm in NZ and have just broken the 3sge that my Fraser Clubman was running. I 'm of a mind to upgrade, given that I shall be throwing money at it anyway and am interested in your collective experience of the 2zzge in the UK. Possible cons are oil-surge and dissapointing torque, so I'm told. Alternatives aplenty here-Honda s2000 motor is attractive;light and very powerful, but expensive-and tall, so would need dry-sump kit= even more expense! The 2zzge has weight and youth on its side (unlike me) and has allegedly, been used in Frasers very successfully in Aus, where regulations no longer permit the fitting of the 3sge (even the BEAMS is too long in the tooth there) Any thoughts gratefully received!

As you have said there are a few in service over here in Oz in Fraser and Birkin examples. They are a bit problematic to install due to the lack of conventional engine mounts and the need to fabricate a gearbox adapter, not to mention challenging wiring.
I'm using a 1ZZFE which has all of the same delights in my clubbie build.
Join www.oz-clubbies.com and ask a few questions of the owners of cars with the ZZ family and also a couple of BEAMS exmples.

Thanks! how do you find the 1zz, power/torque-wise?
I wish I could answer that but my build is a couple of weeks away from being fully drivable, I have an Apexi Power-FC on mine. However here is a quote taken from a thread on Oz-Clubbies on the subject of 1ZZFE Vs 4AGE comparison
I don't know who the guy is but I suspect he's the guy who tuned my son's CA18DET to give 350RWKw in a Datsun 1200 ute.

I've had quite a few 4A's in the past (bigports, smallports, AE101 20V's, AE111 20V's, AE92 and AE101 GZE's) and in more recent years have started working on the 1zz and 2zz engines.
I've found in FWD configurations, the 165ps AE111 "Blacktop" 20V's usually put out somewhere between 87-93KW atw on a Dyno Dynamics unit in Shootout mode, regardless of 3rd or 4th gear used. I've seen them do these figures mostly with 2.25" press bent exhausts and the factory inlet plenum with plastic horns in place, with either a factory airbox/filter or a podfilter on the stock AE111 ECU.
The ZZE122R 1ZZFE's, non DBW rated at 100kw at the flywheel have consistently put down between 84-91kw ATW on the same Dyno Dynamics unit in shootout mode, in 4th gear, on stock ECU with either a stock airbox and filter or the 70mm diameter TRD "Cold Air Induction" pipe with pod filter and usually a 2.25" press bent cat-back exhaust. They dont rev anywhere near as high, but do produce a lot more torque and very similar power. I've also found that when you install an aftermarket ECU on the 1zz's and raise the revlimit up (~7000-7200rpm), the power will keep climbing to the revcut.
