Can any 3D CAD people help me out?
Discussion
Currently I work full time helping other people finish their kit car projects, and to repair or modify their on-the-road kit cars.
Like many other people in my position I wish to become a kit manufacturer and with that in mind I am developing a mid engined car which it is intended will form the basis of an inexpensive, but desirable, kit.
I am about to start the body buck, and I have all the main dimensions, and a good idea of how the car will look, and how the various parts of the body will fit together. What I could do with is somebody to take those dimensions and ideas and produce a 3d picture of what it will look like, and enable me to correct and improve any areas that need it.
I have no spare cash with which to reward the person who did this, I should point out, though if the project did turn out to be a success I'm sure something could be worked out.
Anybody who is interested might like to send me a message through my profile

As a 3d CAD engineer (ex Williams) do you not want to start with the basics first?
e.g. wheelbase & track, followed by the basic architecture before worrying about styling?
I should have made it clearer, I have those dimensions already, and 'styling' , although accurate, doesn't give quite the right impression.e.g. wheelbase & track, followed by the basic architecture before worrying about styling?

You need to consider air in & outlets for cooling too (amongst many other things).
Too many companies worry about this AFTER the styling dept get their hands on the car.
I assume there has been a reply overlap, never-the-less, trust me when I say these matters have been given careful consideration already, and again, 'styling' isn't the right word.Too many companies worry about this AFTER the styling dept get their hands on the car.
What I need is someone to put into a 3D picture what has already been pretty much roughed out in my head, and which can be described in words and numbers. If it turns out that when a 3D picture has been drawn that there is a serious visual, or other, problem, then it can be put right, and if it turns out that the person doing the 3D work has some ideas to contribute, then that would be great too.
You have mail.
Bare in mind I'm a mechanical designer, not product designer so my CAD skills are focussed as such.
However, I do have a basic license of a CFD pakage too, so some low level aero work could also be carried out at an early stage.

Is it already on paper? If not, first step is to do that, and produce a basic dimensioned drawing, with basic details of the mechanical & ergonomic package, as regards bodywork, where the panel breaks are and what type they are, i.e. moulded or sheet, etc. This then could be used as a 'brief' for your design. You also need to define the brief with respect to what you want from the 3D model: is it just to get an idea of what of looks like, or - best case scenario - might it be used as the template for someone like Tribbles to mill on a 5-axis bed? This might influence what software is used and how it's modelled. Even if that's wishful thinking, building in a little 'forward compatibility' at this stage might pay dividends later.I assume you're going to try Locost builders forum too, have you looked at some of the 3D modelling forums - there are a few out there. You may feel a little nervous in terms of confidentiality, but in reality unless there's some patentable design detail, it's not likely to be an issue. BTW - didn't someone model one of Italo's designs, unprompted: find the thread and give them a shout...
Finally - if it's simple, in terms of the shapes and forms why not download Google's Sketchup (or a trial version of something else) and have a go yourself? Couldn't get my head around it, but if you find a relevant tutorial might be worth investing an afternoon of your time to investigate.
