Hello All,
Well, my first thread on this Forum so here goes.
Earlier this year I sold my Austin Healey, after 14 years. Yes, I know, don’t ask why.
Next year, 2010, it will be decision time again. I thinking of buying another Healey, which I’m pretty conversant with or a Cobra replica.
My question is:
Of all the Cobra kits available, which would you recommend?
I’m thinking a 427, with NO side pipes.
Any thoughts, please, recommended articles, reviews etc etc would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Sam

Best bet is to visit here for everything Cobra related : http://www.cobraclub.com
Depends what you want really. Is it to be an exact replica or something with a more modern twist?
If you want authentic then speak to Gerry http://www.hawkcars.co.uk/

Of course it depends on your budget and what you want. You can get everything from a Kirkham Motorsports, which is an aluminum-bodied top-of-the-line beast, to a FFR single donor (Mustang 5 liter), to whatever really. Decide budget and what you want, then try and find someone that doing what you are looking for. With Cobras, there are so many people making them that you can pretty much get what you want. Of course, it will always cost more and take longer than you think -- keep that in mind.
Gardiner Douglas, Dax and AK seem to be the preferred manufacturers of 427 replicas. Of those Dax seem to be the most numerous. Search for Dave Dax builder on here.
Some other manufacturers produce body shapes that look less convincing. If you like the wide body cars it may be worth looking at the Hawk 289 FIA replica too..

Proper transverse leaf spring front suspension (on the replicas of the early cars), accurate chassis, panel beaten aluminium... Great attention to detail.
As mentioned above, Gardner Douglas seem well regarded too.

Also, Kirkham Motor Sports makes more than one version. They make a 427, 289 and both an old (original) style chassis as well as an updated chassis. I believe the updated chassis will perform a far amount better, but some folk insist on originality. Their website has some interesting cars.

Yep, some lovely replicas out there, try one and you'll be hooked! Still inspired by my Dax 427 three years after Dave Dax Builder delivered it,the Dax is a very muscular 427 shape, well proven Jag XJ suspension/brakes, and great value if Dave builds you one, V-8 power available from 250 horse (quick) to 400/500 (mental!)

Hi;
As an alternative to cobra's, May be you should consider this 250GT SportSpyder kit car which is very new on the market, and I am involved with.

Advertising link removed, and addition made to show involvement witgh project - for the avoidence of doubt.

Exactamundo. To paraphrase a well known phrase "Would you buy a new kitcar off this man?"...
As regards the contact number, it IS now a real number but the UK number is a mobile and the address has now changed from (fake) LA to New Jersey: this does not inspire confidence...
BTW 'clic' is actually spelled 'click' on both sides of the Atlantic.
