A very interesting and very compact dune buggy and wonder if something similar today, with a modern fwd engine might be of interest ?

I like this concept....smile

I like it too, but I think it will take some talent to make it look right, bearing in mind that a modern powerunit will project something like 250mm further forward.

I think the front corners will have to have large radius curves to hide the forward projection, the same way modern production cars do. I look forward to seeing your sketches.

I agree with you on the difficulty to make it look right on the front......
I was thinking of a Fiat panda Fire engine just like the Road Rat.

A nice build blog....

Will see if I can come with some sketches.......smile

keep in mind that is a pretty short vehicle, so any protuberance will be further accentuated in scale i.e. tall folk can carry mor weight without looking as much out of proportion. I think it's going to be a pretty tall order (didn't say impossible).

I think having a chassis with sufficient stiffness to avoid snapping in the middle whilst cresting a large-ish dune would also help: that one looks awful!

I'd love to see you do something with this type of car. Just consider the donors that are available. How about a car based on the Audi A3 1.8t quattro. That would be very nice, I'd even like to have one myself.

will try to work on a few rough doodles but I was actuall considering on a smaller engine unit that you you could upgrade later...I like small capacity engines or big V8....biggrin

Looks like the only drawing tool the designer had was a ruler, or it was done in a 3D modelling system with a really low polygon count...

Seriously though, the windscreen seems too raked for the rest of it: a steeper one with a more pronounced break between the screen and roof might work better

Stimson = fugly

The Suzuki-based one at least looks a bit more rugged and the front end isn't hanging over the front axles so much.

The Suzuki's fuglier and it looks more of a jeep / off roader than a buggy, unlike the Stimson which IIRC is Fiesta based.

Unfortunately my Russian's non-existent and clicking on 'English version' has little noticeable effect

That whole part of the world is big on concepts, but few make it to reality. Frankly they're both fugly and that's the disease that will be difficult to cure given the configuration. Better to take the FWD back to mid-engine before you get the paper a pencil out in the first place -- it will make sketching MUCH easier. The Stimpson looks like a tennis shoe on wheels -- at least the Suzuki, ugly though it is, is not trying to masquerade as something it is not (it looks the part of a boxy off road vehicle -- Range Rover anyone?)

I thought about doing one in a similar style to the 70s VW based ones, but smaller, possily even single seater ased around a smart car
