Came across this: http://www.garaget.org/?car=73535

Looks better than the old Fiero replica/lookalike not.

What do you guys make of it?

Steel F40?

That's what I'd like to find out.

Rear side windows curve in just like the real thing and unlike the MR2/Fiero replicas.

Looking at a close up of the body; it is possibly the worst bit of cake icing I have ever seen.

Paul,

I've seen several F40's at shows over the years and have also read that the panel quality and fit were not Ferrari's best.

Probably the only time I'll ever be in front of a real one biggrin

It seems the site above is based in Sweden.

...which is the reason I'd dearly like to find a 'good' replica with the correct dimensions and hone something like an RS4 engine or similar into one, although a V8 would be nice.

There was that one at Stoneleigh this year, opposite the Hawk stand. £100k turnkey apparently, using a twin-turbo F355 engine circa 550 bhp. Lots of parts like the chassis are identical to the real one , and kits to build yourself were about £40k from memory. There was a thread on here about them if I recall, but it went a bit quiet after the guy said he can get "Ferrari" on the tax disc and he was asked how does that work? I can only assume that would be the case if it was a "rebody" using the 355 chassis much like an MR2 / 355 kit. But as it uses a bespoke chassis I do not see how you could get it IVA'd then get Ferrari on the log book? You'd possibly get some nasty looking Italians in Armani suits knocking on your door.....

Searching back Google picked up on an earlier F40 thread about the Enzo Designs car.

In their near impossible to read website it mentions partnering with Simpson motorsport who as some of you may know campaign a rather nice V12 F40: http://www.simpsonmotorsport.com/

So other than not inexpensive pricing it does look like ED have some experienced people behind them.

Checkout Simpsons website - nice looking work.

I've dropped ED a line to see what they have to offer.

Hmm, I reckon a (TVR) AJP V8 would go rather nicely in there - flat plane crank, could always add a turbocharger or two...

It would have to be twin turboed! the Audi RS6 engine might be a good idea. its very short and is twin turboed from Audi. you could even use the desiel box and it should bolt stright up.

biggrin You're right Paul.

Maybe it's his prototype smile

Received a very quick response from Enzo Designs:

"we will be revising prices for 2010 shortly and i will send out a new price list when we have one
we do not intend to display at any shows this year
remarks noted about the website".

I like the idea of the AJP V8. I wonder how that compares in size and weight to the original F car powerplant.

The AJP was problematic as it was without being turbo'd. Parts hard to find and expensive I'd imagine, not reliable, not efficient, probably not the right choice...

Maserati 4200V8s can be gotten cheap-ish, basically a 430 Ferrari motor without the flat plane crank and titanium rods. Dry sumped as standard and a healthy 400bhp and thats without throttle bodies, stand alone ecu etc. Apparently some of the guys who have had their Maerati Gran sports remapped have got another 50+ bhp easily enough. Much more in-keeping with the car and a proven motor.

That is the motor going in my dads Ultima with a ferrari 360 box, M3 throttle bodies on an emerald ecu.

That could obviously be turbo'd too..

And if you want to go twin turbo theres the older 3200 Maserati V8 twin turbo.

To me either of them makes a hell of a lot more sense than faffing about with an AJP.

The proper AJP engine was a great design. It was only when TVR re specced it to make it cheaper did it become unreliable.

You are right though Ryan, that engine is going to be SWEET it your Dads Ultima cool

And having mooched around David Askew's collection of engines and parts, I'd agree with you about using Maserati parts.

I contributed heavily to the old Enzo Design thread and tried to contact them, though my emails didn't seem to be getting through...

I would love an 'exact' replica of an F40 but many, many times I have thought to myself that my perfect car would be an F40 with and F50 V12 engine. The closest I would get to that is an Enzo Designs F40 with a 550/575 engine, which I guess is what the Simpson car is (though a 'real' F40)... Awesome!

Please update this thread if you get more info out of ED on pricing and whether they could get a Ferrari V12 in there!
