focus st170 wiring loom help
Discussion
hi im building a kit car using the focus st170 engine.the standard loom is in 3 main parts and weighs a ton.can anyone recommend a company which will remove all the excess as its for track use so no lights etc.leaving just the stuff to run the engine.
or alternatively is it worth going down the aftermarket ecu route.any help appreciated.

When using modern engines that come with ecus that may well have immobiliser and other issues, it's always a good idea to use an aftermarket ecu if the budget allows.
If it was me I would go with an Emerald ecu and get it mapped on a rolling road once it was fitted. If the car is to be used solely on the track then you would want to be sure you were getting every last allowable bhp from your engine so you would be having it mapped anyway. If you went this route you wold want to check with your local RR which ecus they were familiar with, before buying.
I don't know of any companies advertising a loom modifying service, simply becuase it is so much easier to use a generic kit loom from someone like Premier, and either just the engine loom with its ecu, or an aftermarket unit.

LoL... don't you just love spaghetti!?!
I wound down a Ford Festa's wiring to just engine management... take anything from the fuse box out that aint necessary (in your case, wipers, ancilliary gubbins, etc), and basically everything connected to it's wires leading from those (there were 6 different coloured wires for the front wiper array?)... ultimately it's all a looped circuit of some description. That should leave you with the basic shizzle you need. Hope that helps?
