Hi,

Ive got the kit car bug, problem is im tall, maybe too tall for a kit car frown

With a budget of £5k could i get anything? I love the MNR Vortx but prices of built ones seem to be around £9k-£10

Any recommendations are much appreciated.

You could probably score an older Indy for that type of money. The ONLY way you will know if you can fit into it (or any other kit) is to try it in person. A height alone is not enough, leg length, trunk length, arm length varies from one person to another.

Indeed they are, but you would be pushed to build one for that kind of money, and I don't think they sell second hand cars, yet, anyway.

like singlecoil said, the only way to know really is to go and have a sit in one. you might be able to get a westie seiw (wider larger version) for around 5k if you are prepared to go for an older basic one that you can spend a little money on and a few months doing it up slowly. you will also be able to get a robin hood for 5k too, but not too sure what these are like for interior room. i know the director of robin hood is a decent hieght so im guessing a later one will be okay, but you really need to go and have a sit in them. there are other things that you can do too like move the pedal box and take some padding out of the seats etc etc. but these really are a last resort.

I'm just over 6' 1'' and fit in a widebodied westfield with no problem. I've taken my mate out in a few times and he's 6' 5'' and he just about fits in..

There's a guy on here who's properly tall (about 6'5 at a guess) and drives a regular 'narrow bodied' Caterham, albeit with a lowered floor and a tall roll bar. I know that's not much help at £5k, but it shows it's possible even in one of the more svelte Seven designs.

I can imagine the pint-sized Sylva Striker could be an issue, but if it's not that'd be my pick of the budget Sevens. They're a lot of car for the money.

Hello,

I've just been informed of this thread, firstly thanks for the support for Saturn. I set up Saturn Sports Cars ltd in November 2009, the car is based on the Haynes Roadster by Chris Gibbs and we can provide all parts for the Haynes builder and also now produce full build kits or fully built cars. We are based in Hartlepool and have a demonstrator car which anybody is welcome to come and have a blast in. I am 6'7" and the main reason i went for the Haynes is it's ability to accommodate the larger person and still remain light, 540kg, with full independent suspension. We are also in development of the new Haynes project with Chris Gibbs for a single seater road going car based on a 1967 Lotus F1 car.

Enough of the boring info, if there is anything we can provide then please have a look at our site or give us a ring:

Thanks for the positive comments.

Regards.....Andrew Hugill

I am 6'4 and granted I built the stretched version of the Vindicator Sprint i.e. the family which meant i could put the seat where I liked but there is a decent amount of room in a 2 seat srint.

Where in the UK are you I may be able to put you in touch with someone with a 2 seater.

In theory you can build one for around 5K but that could be optimistic or give a very basic one, but they do come up for sale from time to time

I've got a striker that I am about to put up for sale.

I know people say they are small, but the guy I bought it from was about 6ft 2" and I have to put a large wodge of padding behind me before I can reach the pedals.

Would want about £4500 for it--it is taxed to end sept 2010 and motd to mid august.

Can send full spec if interested.
Am in Cheshire,so not too far away.

Didnt think you could pick up kit cars for this cheap. Are they a good buy at this price range?

Like with most things of a highly variable nature, it depends what you buy and how much you get it for. But yes, it's certainly possible to get a good, usable kit car at this kind of price.

That's a bit like saying you can't pick up 'a car' for that price! smile

An old Dutton or a tatty Quantum can probably be had on the road for under a grand and the smartest exotic replicas, Ultimas etc must be getting on for £100,000. So, yes, there's quite a range...

Our Robin Hood 2B is up for sale on PH HERE

Would suit a 6'3" driver. I'm 6' and there's still room to move the seat back, my father is 5'6" and gets a good fit sliding the seat forwards. It's a tidy little thing, selling to upgrade ourselves to a Westfield after being biotten by the kit car bug.

The Xtreme and Marlin Sportster are both fine for the longer legged. I've seen a few Marlins for sale around £5k.
