Clutch sliglty slipping after gearchange with high rev´s
Discussion
engine: vauxhall xe with 45carbs not other mods
gearbox ford T9 with SBD bellhousing, cable clutch.
live axle, escort mk2.
following problem:
when i use the complete rev-range of the engine the clutch slightly slips for a few seconds after the gearchange.
when i rev the engine to 4500rpm "only", before changing gear, the clutch doesnt slip.
clutch plate is 1000miles "old" (former owner re-newed it during engine installation)
any idea where to search? could it be that the clutch, which is used, can´t cope with the torque/power of the engine? (it even got worse when i changed the diff-ratio from 3,54 to 4,11)
under all other drivin conditions the clutch operates as it should.
actuation force for the pedal is easy (not heavy).
it cuts-in on approx. half way of the pedal travel.
gearchanges, incl. reverse, are all perfect.

Well, if the clutch is working properly otherwise, the presumption is that it's unable to grip properly when under stress. As the clutch plate is known to be OK, that can only leave the clutch cover which is not gripping the plate sufficiently due to weak springs. Another possibilty is that the plate isn't entirely suitable for the cover, that there isn't enough grip exerted because there isn't enough preload on the cover springs when the clutch is closed.
If it gets to be a real nuisance it looks like the engine is going to have to come out (unless you can get the gearbox out on its own).

thanx for your infos...i thought something smilar, too.
do you think it only has to do that the the springs in the clutch cover are weak or do i need a clutch cover with harder springs in general?
My suspicion would be that the clutch cover and plate are not properly matched. Presumably it's a Vauxhall flywheel, and therefore cover, and a Ford plate (so that the splines are correct for the gearbox), or compatible aftermarket parts.do you think it only has to do that the the springs in the clutch cover are weak or do i need a clutch cover with harder springs in general?
So it could be that when the clutch is closed the cover is expecting to be gripping a thicker plate, or perhaps the friction surfaces don't match, and one is overlapping the other? Perhaps SBD have some information on this, and could provide you with the correct part numbers?
