diff for 450bhp dutton
Discussion
Does anyone have any sugestions for a suitable diff for a very powerful light car?
I'm mulling ideas for my next project over in my head and would like to build a light car with a dutton phaeton S1 or b+ body (i just love the shape!) but with a tvr cerbera ajp engine so power will be topside of 400hp
the aim is for something I can drift all day long so i need a small light LSD .. I'm not going to go mad on tyres for my drift fun but will also want to run it on the drag strip so the diff will have to be fairly strong to cope with sticky startlines and the sometimes aggressive nature of traction control / launch control.
Can you get and LSD freelander diff and would that be up to the job? I was also thinking about the rear diff off an Imprezza as that's a popular conversion into small Triumphs (spitfires / gt6 etc) so should go into other small sports cars ok too, and some imprezzas turn out very high hp, though maybe not on std diffs ?
I'm designing the chassis myself so any ideas i can investigate would be great.
Thanks

get a cusco diff, i had a 1.5 way in my rx7 and a 2 way in my skyline, 1.5 i would recomend for grip driving and 2 way for drifting but it will easy hold 400bhp, im not sure if you will have to use the rear axle off a jap car though for it to fit.
ps dont get a freelander diff thats a known week point on them.

I have had cars with Cusco and Kaaz diffs and echo the above.ps dont get a freelander diff thats a known week point on them.
The Kaaz was a 2 way and had a very harsh lock up, it was almost like a welded diff. Slow moving when parking or trundling around an intersection was quite hard work..the car would want to go straight on or the inside wheel would squawk, chunter and chirp across the tarmac. Basically it works best when you are using lots of power in which case traction is huge and oversteer would come at will.
Note that if the diff you end up choosing is a clutch pack style diff it will need quite regular oil changes especially with hard use. You will also have fun running it in, with the Cusco diff it was 30 minutes of figure 8's!

The cusco and Kaz diffs dont work that well in a light car. Also, an RX7 diff weighs 65kg's!
Jebus 65KG!!!What about a Toyota Supra diff?
Can be bought for sub sub £50 too
