Westfield XTR4
Discussion
Hi,
I am considering changing the radical for somthing i can use on the road and track as i miss having something fun for the road.
I am considering a westfield XTR4 and have not been able to find information regarding ownership. What i want to know is can they safely be used on the road without damaging the splitters on every bump.
Thanks and Regards
Ross

is it definately a XTR 4 you are after? i only ask cause they are alot harder to find than an XTR2... a good friend has an XTR2, i have been in it a few times, and i think it is a great car, both for the road and track.I am considering changing the radical for somthing i can use on the road and track as i miss having something fun for the road.

he mainly uses his as a road car.. (unfortunately!) but it does work well.. its best to use a helmet etc, but it copes very well. the lower splitter is plywood, backing onto the fibreglass body, and his has had a knock or two. Proper speed bumps would be an issue i think. The brick speed humps you find in estates etc, should be ok. Ground clearance is tight, but his is fully useable around town (and it copes on proper countryside roads)
go have a look at one if you can, its low, but i think usable as a road car.
I've had both - both can be used on road, no real issues as mentioned above if you're careful. XTR4s are much "nicer" on the road, XTR2s are more of a buzz. XTR2s are nicer on track with just a driver, 4s are if you regularly take passengers. Especially if you tweak the engine a little.
Biggest issue you'll have with a 4 is finding on and it's reliabilty. Engine and box are bullet proof in a car that light - what tended to go on ours were sensors, hard connecting pipes etc. Std VW/Audi stuff seemed to just shake itself to pieces, so for instance an oil temp sensor would crack. No big deal except it would be peeing oil out of it causing us to end the day. XTR2s will have Busa lumps in and I guess those engines are designed to be in a harsher environment.
If I wanted a road/track car, I'd search out a 4 and do some work on the reliabilty, if I wanted a track/road car I'd get a 2.
