After a nice leisurely morning drive on the Hampshire Tunnel Run, my navigator has decided that an intercom system may be a good idea for future runs - in order to tell me which way to go!

Has anyone tried the cheapo Aldi intercoms that come up now and again, I’m just about to start scanning ebay for a cheap Autocom one but thought I would see if anyone had tried the Aldi one and if so is it any good

I had an Autocom system, cost about £220. I wasn't that impressed for the money, not very loud and you hadvto speak to activate so unless you said a codeword first you missed out the first bit of speech. Had lots of features like Sat Nav and phone but I got fed up with it. I use now a simple Sparco Profi rally intercom from Demon Tweeks. Only does voice between occupants, but crystal clear and importanty nice and LOUD! About £60.

Thanks, that's good to know. I will have a search around for the Sparco one, do you still wear ear plugs with the intercom, or can you not hear (the intercom) if you have them in

I normally have 1 stereo earpiece in giving me some background music and telephone capability. I do not use earplugs as I NEVER go on the motorway normally without a full helmet after being hit in the face by flying gravel and drippng blood!

I have the autocom - got it wired in. Takes a bit of fiddling with the levels to get it to key right but seems loud enough so far, but was quieter on the battery.

Cheers Hobzy, have you got yours on the road again yet

If you don't mind could I have a look at your setup, when we get out and about

Somebody at a trackday in a Caterham R400 lent me and my brother his intercoms for a session. They were pretty good but were far too quiet and bloody offputting for the driver. Everytime we were full chat there was no chance of hearing each other but for the road on a long drive they would have been fine.

Can't remember the name but they were bluetooth intercoms. That may help you find them, but I imagine they weren't cheap.

I have an Autocom on the bike.

It's far and away the best system I've ever used.

Follow the instructions regarding mic positioning and it's spot on. The vox (speech activated)facility works well once you get used to it and it means that background noise is not amplified when you are not talking.

Has anyone tried the Acumen KT5 intercom kit, I have found one reduced from £90 to £25 and am tempted but don't want to buy it if they are garbage

Just bought one of these Click Here.

I'll update once I've tried it but for less than £9, thought it was worth a go.

I got the Oxford Bike Mike I think from Argos - about £40-50 I think it was. Has aux in for mp3s etc. You need to wire it up to the car battery as the supplied battery only lasts a couple of hours. Only problem I've had is isolating the exhaust sound from the passenger's mike - when you put your foot down you get a distorted engine sound through the headphones.

That's why the vox function on the Autocom is so handy.

It doesn't switch on until you actually speak and switches off again once you stop talking.

I have an Autocom kit in mine along with an Autocom kit for each motorbike my wife and I have. We have no problems with volumes and have our MP3 players going through it along with a bluetooth connection to our mobiles.
