kit car warranty
Discussion
i am having a murtaya built and due to adrenaline going into administration i moved my car to another kit car builder who was one of their agents.
another company is trying to establish itself as murtaya builder but saying any previous customers warranty etc is invalid despite the company supplying donor parts/vehicles an ex adren tech and previous backer being involved,is this common practice in kit car community?

Yes, dependant on the individual setup of the two companies, the agent will have no financial connection to the the original manufacturer, normally only a distributor agreement exists between the two parties. They will normally be completly separate operations, despite sharing a common backer.another company is trying to establish itself as murtaya builder but saying any previous customers warranty etc is invalid despite the company supplying donor parts/vehicles an ex adren tech and previous backer being involved,is this common practice in kit car community?

Most try to help stranded customers with good will gestures.
I remember this happening to a GT40 manufacturer in the Australia called Roaring Forties, a lot of people were let down, went into recievership etc, then a new company using the same name must have bought what was left of the tooling and continued to trade under the same name.
The kit car industry is very prone to this sort of thing happening, hence designs change hands so often.
Not good when you are on the recieving end.

It's well understandable that you should be so pissed off at what has happened to you. I'd have to say, though, that for most people the kit car buying experience goes pretty well. It's always a bit riskier if you have someone else build the car because naturally they want paying as things proceed, but they have still got the car, and especially if you are a long way away, it's difficult to know exactly what is going on.martin
Most kit car buyers only risk their deposit because they don't actually pay for the kit until they pick it up and can see what they are paying for, so even if the firm should go bankrupt they will only lose whatever the deposit is, often only £100 or so.
I'm still surprised that Adrenaline did go into receivership because in the end, firms only fold if more money is going out than is coming in. So either they were taking money out too quickly or they weren't getting it in the first place. So unless the firm was actually mismanaged or fraudulent, the conclusion is that they weren't charging enough for what they were doing, or not getting enough customers for the level of marketing and other expenditure that they were doing. Maybe someone who knows more about what was going on there might be able to shed some light on that.
If their prices were too low, though, it would suggest that the new owners are going to have to raise them, so anyone who got a car already might have done better than they realised.

Just to clarify my company is a long established one who will SUPPLY kits and parts as required therefore will not repeat not be a "Murtaya builder"another company is trying to establish itself as murtaya builder but saying any previous customers warranty etc is invalid despite the company supplying donor parts/vehicles an ex adren tech and previous backer being involved,is this common practice in kit car community?

The ex AMS tech was made redundant at short notice is now self employed and nothing to do with me or my company.
Previous backer was very much a silent investor who new little of AMS plight until to late,he is owner of moulds and build rights and has lost a great deal of money and has decided to give it another go with a fresh approach.Again Ido not control what he chooses to do.
I do empathise that you have lost a lot of money and faith Martin but it is not my fault, your negative attitude and negative posts have that exacting effect on the hole Murtaya product and as such does little good.
I think you will find you are in good hands with Arden Automotive who are much more than Kit car builders!
well so far i have had to pay out for labour i have already paid for parts neil promised would be in car-seats gauges harnesses fire extinguisher totalling over £1500 in parts when transferred interior flocking is peeling in places and very thin in others as despite paying for professional flocking adrenaline did their own job donor clutch needed replacing, paintwork is covered in chips and scratches from what ian says being abandoned in the factory and has now failed IVA twice with no record of adrenaline having ever put it through IVA in the first place so generally f*cked off with my kit car experience and would advise anyone not to do it as i already have to several scoobynet/sidc/22b members who have asked how my car is getting on and i mention the above!and this was supposed to be a factory build!

You have to be a bit careful generalising with all kit car companies. Most people (nee all) I know do not have any problems other than a few missing bits of kit which get replaced or lengthy waits for certain items. Do not know your exact circumstance or how much you have lost but you are not typical of this industry. I certainly would only part with cash in installments, paying only upfront for the next stage after the last bit had been completed to my satisfaction. Especially with a build costing over £15k. I am a very trusting person but I would not hand over huge sums to small businesses in advance full stop. It is a shame what happened to you and I fell sorry for what you have lost. You are always onto a financial hiding with high-end factory built kitcars as I would expect to lose 40% of it's value the second I collect it, it is just the way it is, unless it is something quality like a Hawk Stratos. And the companies now supplying Murtaya bits cannot seriously take on Adrenalins debts! If that was the case then I doubt you would ever be able to finish a kit from a failed supplier. I hope you manage to get te car(s) done and look forward to seeing them, but let this be a lesson for all builders and also manufacturers that it can all go horribly wrong very easy without some financial savvy on all sides.
i was paying part instalments up to a point where i only owed them £2,000 which they sid they needed to get car back from mapper and to iva,the photos they sent me managed to avoid scratches and were using a shared roof between 2 customers as i later found out, interior pics showed trim at best and i knew gauges etc could not be fitted till post iva and those parts were waiting to get fitted.as aberdeenshire is such a long way from cornwall i trusted them to tell me the truth and give me accurate progress reports after the £2,000 was used up i was unprpared to waste any more money and got car removed from factory when it was found to be in it's present state by arden-definitely an expensive lesson learnt-dont trust anyboby further than i can physically reach!
