Help on re-doing the interior
Discussion
right,
I have managed to get hold of some bloody good value black automotive carpet and can finally start on slowly doing up the interior. I'll give you a run down on current status. black car, BRG and brown vinyl dash (not a good look), green vinyl door cards, rubber matting on floor, cockpit sides and boot are bare fibre glass.

here are the list of questions,
-whats the best way of fitting carpet on floor and up the sides of the cockpit, prefer something easily removable.
-is it a good idea to have carpet on door cards or should i match them to the dash when i get around to doing it.
The dash will have to wait till summer as i currently have no funds, but plan to re-design it completely with new clocks and switches etc. The seats are pretty good as they were re-covered a few years ago with new vinyl covers and have scrubbed up nicely.
Thanks

What about bonding some strips of velcro to the floor and stitching the other strip to the rear of the carpet, then bonding some press-studs onto the sides with those fixings that have metal rings hidden in the carpet and the tabs pushed through the carpet and bent. That would make the carpets removable but would they be fixed strongly enough should you transfer your weight to your feet when getting in and out?
Question is do you really need to remove the carpets?
If not then just glue them on. Even with the strongest of upholstery adhesive you can still pull them of at a later date.
If you want to make them removable then you will have to carry the extra expense of having each piece edge bound and trying to get them to fit neatly whereas gluing them on will allow a much neater join between carpet sections.
Carpet on the side panels/door cards is fine as long as it is a short/fine pile. Shag pile on the sides is not a good look.

I have decided that i will just glue it down. It is cheap enough that if i ever need to pull it up and it gets wrecked to just buy some more but thanks for the suggestions anyway. Yes, it is a very short pile. If i do the door cards now i can always change them back to vinyl at a later date when i do the dash i suppose.
