MK Indy build cost?
Discussion
well basically i would really like to build one of these, preferrably with a bike engine.
ive got all the tools Etc.
can anyone who has build one tell me a rough cost for all the parts? excluding engine transmision Etc.
and i take it you buy the lot straight from MK?
also do you get a detailed instruction manual on how to build it?
cheers,
matt

Ive built a couple of Indys, both the original Indy and the Indy R,the Indy R is the one to go for,its a extra £600 but worth every penny, handles and feels far better to drive than the original chassis.
As for build costs, you should be able to build and IVA a bike engined Indy R for around £7500,thats for a standard spec car, with a fireblade or R1 engine, but costs can start to spiral if you start fitting a few trick bits and more powerfull busa/zx12 engines etc.
The build manual is available for download from there webb site, its not that great, but to be honest they are very easy to build, join "locostbuilders" there's loads of people on there either built one,or building one,so there's always help at hand.

This is a link to the best build diary webb site.
Lots of good information in there.

cheers, and yes i am looking at doing the R version.
i think im pretty confident at doing most of it, and taking my time it should be fine.
the bits i would struggle with the most would be the engine/gearbox/diff fitment, but im sure i can work that out when i get there.
i noticed they have a deal on at the moment of pretty much all the bits minum wheels/seats/exhuast and all of the engine/drivetrain for £3700, so hopefully that deal is still on when im in a position to start it.
i will probably then start by building the majority of the car then think about the engine/gearbox. but im thinking something around a 1000 CC engine, and a push pull gear lever. ive read you can use the diff from the sierra, but not seen what gearbox can be used mentioned anywhere.
also do you get all the body panels sprayed before you accemble it, or after?

If your fitting a bike engine, the gearbox is built into the engine casing,so its all one unit, you supply your engine to MK and they build it into the chassis for you, including the engine cradle to support the engine, so thats all done for you,the diff as you pointed out is a sierra unit, again the mounting for this is built into the chassis, all you have to do is fit 3 bolts and its job done.i think im pretty confident at doing most of it, and taking my time it should be fine.

As for the body panels, these are all supplied already painted in "gel coat" you can have any solid colour you like all included in the price,so all you have to do is fit them.
The best thing to do is visit them, have a look at the cars, take you out for a demo drive etc,but remember its a buyers market, all kit car companys are working hard to get your orders, and although MK Sportscars are very popular and very busy selling alot of kits, deals can still be done, they often offer free powdercoated of the chassis for all orders taken at kitcar shows,so thats always worth a try when you place your order, that will save you around £250 if you can get it.
Depending on your choice of engine and proposed use for the car, it might be worthwhile looking to change the diff from a Sierra to a BMW E36. The main reason for this is that there are much more available ratios.
I would post a question here for what ratio is used for what engine and wheel size before deciding what to do.
For eg, I run a Yamaha R1 engine with 3.54:1 ratio diff and 185/60/13 tyres.
Acceleration is phenominal but top speed is only 120mph which is easily attainable on almost every UK circuit, therefore not much good for track days but huge fun on the road!

I'm assuming that they fabricate a cradle or subframe for the bike engine to be mounted on. This then fits into the chassis. They have probably done most 1000cc upwards bike engines and your kit would come with a cradle for the engine you have chosen.
That's just my understanding. I may be wrong.
