well ive just broken a 92 2L sierra, for the parts for a MK indy R im going to be building.

now i was originally be going to be using a R1 bike engine, but know had second thoughts, and thinking about using a car engine.

now i have a 2L Pinto (which has only done 15K, and was only fitted in 2007) which would deffinaly be the cheapest option.

but is very heavy and only 125 BHP.

or i could get a black top (zetec).

or i could go back to plan 1 and get an R1 engine.

The car will be used on road and track.

im just not sure which way to go on my first kitcar.

so any advice?

cheers

The Zetec is a very good engine. For most of its production years you will need to run fuel injection and a catalyst to get through the IVA. You can get a suitable inlet manifold from Spencer Ashley for £225 ish which will use the original fuel rail and throttle body, ecu etc (you will need to get the immobiliser disabled), and catalysts can be got from ebay for not too much.

If you want a bike engine then you will need to add the cost of reversing equipment, catalyst will depend on the producttion year. The ECU will usually be supplied with the engine.

Hello

After buying my first kit car a few months back, and only ever been in my one I can only comment on the BIKE engine idea. The noise is amazing. Acceleration is stupid. The gear changes are awsome, effortless and really fast. My car has a Fireblade engine in it.

The car engine idea would be just as much fun, especially a modern age Zetec. Both cars would be quick and great fun.

The bike engine i suppose is slightly diffrent and revs more than any car i have owened or been in!!

Personally....for me the bike engine is the one. my chum (bike mechanic) always told me to buy a BEC for the reliability of the engines. The R1 would be superb. They really are bomb proof!!

I bought my car complete so i was not in the positon on choice as you are. best thing is too find people locally to you and ask them for a run, if you have not all ready.

If your up in Scotland lets me know!! haha

im thinking i might go for the zetec 2.0, and might even turbo it later on, if i get bored of the power.

i take it my 3:92 diff will be fine with this engine?

will the gearbox off my pinto fit? or will i need to get a zetec box?

what do i do about engine and gearbox mounts? will MK be able to supply me? or will i need to work this out myself?

and any rough performance stats i can expect?

cheers
