Has anyone here built a MEV Atomic? I am slightly tempted by the idea of one for my first self build because they look so damn simple.

Specifically, what's a realistic on the road cost if you're using mainly new and reconditioned components (trying to make it as 'Mecano' as possible)? How long does it take? How simple are they to put through the IVA? Any thoughts on how much it might be worth once assembled (I presume you'd budget to lose money on it overall)?

I would have thought that a tR1ke would be an easier and slightly cheaper build, it would also be fractionally lighter. The thing I have heard about single seaters is that only you know what it's like. This means that you can never let anyone know what it is like to be in it, the amount of times people will ask you for a ride in it will be ridiculous, only to let them down. Not as clued up on the IVA as some but i have a sneaking suspicion that all you need is an MSVA, not a full IVA.

You're right, according to RTR's estimates it's about £1000 cheaper to build a tR1ke than an Atomic, partly because it only has to go through the MSVA test (which is £104 compared to the £450 IVA test). It's also 100kg lighter.

I drove both cars last week and, while it was the Atomic that I've been looking forward to drive for ages, I was surprised at how well the tR1ke faired in a back to back comparison between the two cars. Not going to say too much more here, though; for the full run-down you'll need to see next month's CKC wink
