V5 question: "date of 1st reg" and "year of manufacture"

i´ve recognized that on some kitcars, which have been registered in the times of the old style V5 and later got a "new" V5c there was a mismatch between date of 1st reg and year of manufacture?
what i mean: some cars got the year of manufacture stated as reg. date when the v5 was changed to a V5c, but some not. (thats how it seems to me)
the "new" V5c only shows the date of 1st reg, but the "old" V5 says "date of 1st registration 2001" and on the top right corner eventually a note " was registered and/or used declared manufactured in 1989"
as the "date of 1st registration" printed in th V5c is the first information for our authorities over here to say if the car can be re-rgistered or not it often fails cause the reg.date is too young.
an online DVLA database check, for example, shows:
"date of 1st regitration 10.05.2002"
"year of manufacture 1980"
could these dates being altered / swaped?
