Hello there, this being my first post, here it goes.
I've recently seen a GKD kit from £3,700 with bodywork and chassis and botls...basically the full kit except the donor car(Legend Six kit btw). The reason for this is my BMW 323i with a E46 330i lump in it....which has failed the MoT but has a strong engine and drivetrain....so i thought i'd build a kit car with the engine. I would build all the car myself.
But this GKD kit is new to me, so i have a few questions if there's anyone familiar with these kits:
Keeping in mind i have a full car to use here, except fuel tank, exhaust, windscreen and dash clocks.

Firstly, has anyone driven one of these before, if so how do they compare to other kitcars or road cars? To give a background here's a couple of vehicles i have owned: Focus ST170, MK3 Capri, Locost with Sierra, Impreza Turbo 2000 1998 300BHP. Has anyone had the pleasure of driving or being driven in some of these that can compare?

Secondly, i have got confused with the GKD Legend Six cost price. Apparently i need custom uprights? at a cost of around £300? Are there actually necessary? And a new steering rack if you keep the standard power steering pump and shafts? Are all of these neccessary or has anyone built one and noticed that there's a lot of parts you could of saved on by just using or refurbing the standard ones off the donor car?
Not sure if i'm missing something here, but comments or answers will help as no one i know has built one of these.

I'm currently building one with a e36 m3 engine. The kits are very good, the upright issue is because the standard ones are modified to match the custom geometry that the kits designed around. I guess you can use your rack if you want to keep the PAS but I can't think of any reason why you would with such a light car? They're an equal of many of the higher end kits with the bonus of modern running gear/donors. I also think they've got better 'lines' than many of the current kits. It'd be much quicker and better dynamically than any of your previous car's, just without the creature comforts!

The support you get from GKD is better than i've experienced with other kits i've built. There's a great review in BMW car magazine that shows you just how good the 'basic' car is with a 1.8 4 pot.

Here's a couple of pics of mine, feel free to PM me for any more info.

There's also the GKD owners club forum too...

Ah thank you, good have a reason for the exchange.
Very nice car i must add, can i ask how long has it taken to get to that point? I don't have a limit but would like to know what lies ahead. Also with putting a 6 Cyl engine into a kit car, how comfertable did you find working on the vehicle, did wish you were a contortionist or was it the usual kit car build?
I'm looking to build it on the smallest budget possible then modifying or replacing parts as i get used to the vehicle. But would you have any upgrades or any 'must have' new parts?

Its not taken very long in terms on man hours, a couple of weeks would get you to where I am, The cars been fine to work on, the engines a tight fit but I've had it in and out 3 times now by myself, everything else is easy to get to.

Regarding must have new parts I'd say its up to yourself really. New calipers etc i'd say are a must and are cheap. I'd go for the loom that GKD supply as it enables the car to work with EWS if fitted and 'bolts' onto the engine wiring loom.
