Some time ago I asked about a bigger chassie for the Locost 'book car' and this site pointed me to the 442 design, well the car is now nearing completion so a few pictures you may be interested in. The guy in the picture actually did much of the work, we welded up the chassie wishbones etc on jigs we made, nothing was bought from a recognised kit car supplier.
The car is being built in Malaysia, it is the third car we have built, (there are 4 here in total),
Shocks were made up by a local company, from the one's I run on my Sylva, the fiber glass parts were made by a local company, and they will supply the seat, again all made form out own molds. engine is a 1300 ford Escort, the 442 car in the picture is rumming a Toyota back axil with LSD and Disks as it is too wide fro the ford one.
This car is being made for some one who has never driven on the track (hence the 1300) plan is to run it for a while and then drop in a 2 liter Vtec Honda and five speed, so we will take advatage of the back axil upgrade.
Excorts are readily available here (I have 2 1600 engine sbox and axil) in store for the next cars, and there are loads for sale form 200 pound for a runner.
This is the first run of the car, last weekend, it is now being stripped, we will then shot blast, and paint it.
The bigger chassie actually looks OK in real life well poportioned.
Roll cage is made up from Cold drawn to "blue Book' spec re bend Dia etc.
One problem is the 4 inches in the length means the steering colum had to be extended, and we are currently looking at how to brace the colume to the chassie.
We are running the escort pedle box with a Honda master cyl and servo.
