I've decided to scratch an itch and get myself a kit car. This one http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1953096.htm is relatively near to me and I'm planning to have a look when the owner returns from holiday.
I emailed him and asked if he could send me some more pictures and this was his reply and I quote "What do you want pictures of-it is a standard Robin Hood which has had virtually no use-100 miles!" Bit brusque eh?
He has since emailed me some more pictures and it does seem pretty good. I would welcome any comments from you chaps in the know about these things. I'll upload the pictures he sent me to Photobucket or similar in the near future.
TIA

So it's an overpriced example of a car that's generally regarded as an embarrassment to the kit car industry, being sold by an ignorant a
hole.And your question is?
to make it worse, that particular robin hood was their attempt at making a stainless steel monocoque (sp) chassis and it really was bad. I built one and struggled to get it through the SVA 8 years ago. My dad bought the kit and didnt finish it so i did. After it was finished it was that bad i gave it straight back to him.
I still remember phoning RH and asking why the gap between 1 wheel arch and the wheel was 2 inches and the other was 4. He basically admitted that the fibreglass wasnt what it should and my expectations were too high for a kit car.

Care to expand on the merits or otherwise of a Robin Hood?
They're overweight, badly engineered, inconsistent quality, difficult to build (which exacerbates the inconsistent quality) and have poor suspension and handling.About the only thing they have going for them is that they're very cheap, only that one isn't.
Your budget will buy you a nice Westfield or Sylva, so no problem there.
With a car as specialised as this, it would be unwise to buy on the grounds of geographic location. You need to look at several, to get a feel for relative build quality, and if that means spending a few quid on petrol then it's a good investment.
ooh I built one exactly like that, take the worst bits from a cortina, add some badly made ex de lorean stainless steel bits and you end up with something that looks like a 7 when you have nothing to compare it against, that is slow and handles like a cortina. The only good thing I can say is that I survived t-boning an escort van at about 50, fortunately the insurance payout funded its replacement a very nice Fiat twink engined Sylva Striker.
That RH7 is too expensive by about 3 grand.
Use you 5k budget to buy a anything from Sylva or Fisher Sportscars or even from MK.
