Zetec to type 9 gearbox

When I swapped Xflow to Zetec on our Westy, I went for the Dunnel sump. Significantly cheaper than the Raceline or Westfield items, works perfectly fine, although not as pretty, admittedly. It's a cut-n-shut job on a stock sump, but they retain the capacity by panelling in the big void.
Lowest point is the bottom of the bellhousing, by a gnats.
Did use the Raceline water rail and short DCOE inlet manifold though. TBs are DIY conversions of GSXR600 TBs grafted into a pair of dead DHLA 40 bodies, so fit the DCOE manifold nicely and stay within the bonnet line.
Had some bother with starters getting a bit hot due to exhaust heat and letting me down, so ended up with a Brise starter. This has been reliable for a few years now so would recommend it as an option. Nowt more annoying or embarrassing than a car that won't crank over after you stop for petrol......until you've sat there for an hour while it cools down.
Had to fit a remote oil filter too - no way a filter in the normal position would clear the steering column given the layout of our car. A bonus is it's really easy to get at and swap the filter now, no mess, no spillage, even with a fully primed new filter going on. Almost worth the expense just for that.
Good luck with the conversion....you won't be disappointed. Zetec is really a remarkably good engine I reckon.
A stock one responds very well to TBs and a decent exhaust. Can't complain at 169bhp from a £150 stock 2l silver top I don't think.

Just had a 2.0L Zetec from a Focus put in my Royale Sabre to replace a 1.8 CVH and it's transformed the car. Had it set up on a rolling road last weekend and it's putting out 141bhp and goes like stink. Using an Omex ECU.
To answer your original question, the type 9 bolted straight to the Zetec. Used a standard CVH clutch and 87-92 Transit release bearing and a spigot bearing on the gearbox mainshaft. Don't waste money on Tigers £180 shortened sump, though Jim at Tiger will tell you it's the only way the engine will fit. A standard CVH sump fits almost perfectly, just needs gentle judicious use of a hammer to clear one of the main bearings, it'll be obvious when you come to fit it. Dip stick needs a little tweak in to to go down to the deepest part of the sump. Starter motor again was standard CVH but it does get a bit warm so I've fashioned a heat shield for it. Whether it gives up the ghost due to heat, time will tell.
