Hi guys,

Long time lurker, virtually first time poster.

A friend of mine has a Deon Scoperto, a replica of the Ferrari Dino 246. He has unfortunately developed a crack in the front windscreen and the insurance company are having difficulty sourcing a replacement for it.

Would anybody have any info on whether a replacement Dino 246 windscreen (or its spin-offs like the GT etc) would do the trick? It's a lovely example and would be a huge shame to have to see it go.

Any help is much appreciated and many thanks in advance!

Easiest way is (if you can) to get some measurements (in mm). This way I can identify it my its dimensions.

Will need in mm:

- top to bottom (middle of screen)

- side to side at the widest point

...and if the screen is in rubber or behind trims.

Also, the brand/make of the screen that's in there will also help.

I've been told the screen is most likely to be a Lancia Beta or Monte Carlo.

Bit of an update regarding this situation.

JontyR came through for us in the end and managed to save the Deon Scoperto from being a write off. If you have any bespoke glass needs, give him a shout and see if can help you out.

I wonder if your friend will find windscreen cover quietly dropped from his insurance quote for next year smile Did the glass have to be custom made / cut down from another standard part? Or was it possible to find the correct, original spec 'screen?

Thankfully the original glass was still intact, albeit with a mass of cracks! So we were able to scan the original and from there make a mould. So in the unlikely event of the problem occurring again, it will just be a case of making a new impression.

There is a company still doing the Dino kits somewhere southwest of the country, Classisc something, cant remember the name but im sure they advertise in the kit mags regularly, im sure they would have one on the shelf and any other parts you require, if I get chance will lokk back through some old mags and get a phone number for you

Out of interest, what sort of costs are one talking about to make such an item? I'm working on a project at the moment which would, ideally, require a custom screen. It would likely be a single-curvature item.

I may be wrong but, as I recall, the Deon was moulded from an original Dino 246.

If that was the case, a replacement screen for a Dino would be the most straight forward approach although unlikely to be cheap. I'm pretty certain it's nowt to do with the Lancia Beta!

Try Pilkington Automotive. They did a laminated screen for my Bonito which is from a 60's Ford Taunus for £190.
