Have been looking for a fun two-seater for those nice fine days and stumbled across a Kougar with a tuned E-type engine.

I had one while ago but it was no where near as nice as this one. However, at just over £25k, I just wonder if I really should go down this route or look for something else?

I'm a bit, erm, mature for just being a speed freak so I like my toys to be a little different, yet great fun.

I've got a decent car for everyday stuff and a GS for daily riding too.

I just don't want to buy this, find it depreciates heavily and then suddenly realise that I should have bought something else for my money.

Any advice please?

There's few cars that don't depreciate and they all cost money. Ask yourself why you want the car and what you want to do with it. It seems that you've had quite a few really nice machines so you know a nice car when you see one, though I do wonder why you change them so frequently unless you've got a very big garage there! wink

Are you looking for a Sunday drive, a Grand Tourer or a track car? I doub't you're looking for an everyday car somehow. Kougars were coveted by a small band of discerning enthusiasts and I believe they are still going. Not really my cup of tea, though I did really like the Monza. I dare say there's a number of folk who would be upset that it was once an E-type but hey at least it lives on.

Good to hear it's not a Cobra or a Seven though that you're pondering over. Now watch me get flamed by all the sheep! LOL

At the end of the day I think you're looking for a car that gives you some pleasure so just go for what you enjoy. Life's too short to worry about if it's costing you money, 'cos as sure as eggs is eggs it is !!! £25k though will get you a really nice Deronda on the road

The Kougar is very tasteful and I would like one myself. If it's a decent car then buy it, I can't see depreciation being much of an issue if at all.

Thanks for that.

Yea Mike Abbas has two of them.

One is the E-Type engine and the other a 4.2 engine. I prefer the E-Type version personally.

I'm looking for a weekend toy, occasional commuter and something to maybe do the odd tour in.

I can't take the kids on the bike (the wife says no) so maybe take the kids out too - one at a time clearly.

I really wanted a Ronart this time but the Kougar is fun and just that bit different.

Hi all. Sorry for the interruption but isn't that a Ronart? I have always loved the look of the Kougar and would still like one one day.

That's not a Rocket, its a kit car that came out at about the same time.

It's not a Grinnall Scorpion IV either.

It's a Brooke ME190.

Jimminy Christmas in just quickly doing a Google Image search I've unearthed 3 cars all worthy

The Light Car Comapny's Rocket
The Grinnall Scorpion IV
and
The Brookes ME190

sorry for the mix up but hey that resulted in 3 super little cars well worth trying.

If anyone wants to do that on Kougar then they should either make sure that if they are on 'unfiltered' that they don't do it at work.

One final question

Can a kit car really be a classic car?

Of course! There's loads of British sports cars that started of as kit cars.

Marcos, Ginetta , Lotus Europa, Piper, they are all classics for a start and there will be more too.

The purchase fell through, as the car is still registered as a Daimler and not a Kougar Sports.

Bugger!

Was warned of this by the Kougar Owners Club.

In real life though, is this a serious issue. Would an SVA be required and would it pass in this style?

It's IVA now, slightly tougher, and £450 with £90 for a retest.

Any kit car can be got through it, but how long it takes/much it costs will vary from one car to another. When was it built? Has it been MOTed as a Kougar? If you can prove it was built before 1999 and that there is some official recognition of that, it might still be possible to get it re-registered as a Kougar without a test.

Original car was 1968 but finished off after 1999. I could buy subject to IVA and V5 showing Kougar but doubt that they'd do this. MOT not yet on it.
