Hi i am thinking of making a one off special sumthing like a sherpley / bently blower using a ldv chassis and runing gear i have built kit cars for the old sva test but with the new test do you have to test it or can you just change the body type on the v5 cheers bill
If you are clever with your conversion and don't modify the chassis then you should be able to just re-register with the body change. If you can make all of your conversion pick up on existing body mounts then you should be OK.A conversation I had with the DVLA inspector at Portsmouth office indicated that welding on additional brackets or moving engine mounts constituted a change which would then require a new VIN allocated by DVLA and an IVA test.

Hi thanks for the info so the best thing is to make the body fit the chassis and leave any changes till after it as been reg on the v5
Best of luck Airads with the project, deffo do-able with existing rules. But be careful with modding things post re-registration. When I had my SVA on the Robin Hood I finished in 2005, I discussed this very thing with the inspectors. We talked about re-bodying a chassis, eg Hot-rods on Scimitars etc., and they thought that in the future there would be policing by VOSA using spot checks to weed out such practices, and checking on post-SVA alterations. Thereafter, the only mod I made on the Hood was to replace the gigantic front indicators with some nice little motorbike ones but they were still out on stalks to stay within the dimension regs. All the other things necessary for SVA stayed on, eg sharp edge coverings. These had all been done with the intention of staying on to keep within the law, therefore were aesthetically reasonable.Petemate said:
