why i have expected such an answer already during typing the original thread?

didnt i say "where i could buy a shortened sump...."

i´ve plenty of infos already how a sump must be shortend, but i dont have welding skills, nor a welder.
also, i dont want to ask some of my mates to do it for me, as they have enough work with their own issues.

I apologise Ithought I could help, but by looking at your fleet you probably don't have time to tinker you will be hopefully to busy driving so why not have an untermenshen do it for you?

by the way: b4 you post german words, you should first investigate how to spell them correctly.

If you don't you can buy an unmodified sump on Ebay, or from one of the specialist breakers who advertise in Classic Ford magazine here in the UK, and get it delivered directly to MK (or any number of other race/rally/kit car fabrication specialists).

Shortened sumps do occasionally crop up for sale on Ebay or on the Locost forum classifieds (though the latter is not nearly as active as it used to be), but you're never quite sure what you're getting in terms of quality, capacity and baffling.

@One Eyed Mick: You'll get used to Comadis. No matter what suggested solution you offer him, he'll always come back with an explanation of how he's thought of that already and it won't work for him because....

Usually it involves some critical bit of technical information that he omitted to include in his orignal post, so I'm waiting for him to tell us that this is a sump from the special version of the Crossflow developed to homologate the GT70 in the Moldavian Rally Championship and that it therefore has a different bolt pattern to all the sumps available on Ebay... smile

LOL.....Sam, that was a really good explanation.....!!!
really..no joke!!

ok...i dont have a spare sump at the moment....but the idea to buy in UK and ship it to an UK modifier (e.g. MK) is great!!

may i ask how you will modify it? will you add an extension to compensate the lost volume? do you also need to modify the suction-pipe?

Comadis,

You'll get an ex-Caterham one quite easily. Post on the Caterham section on PH.

As the customer it's really your job to specify these requirements, since every installation can be different to some extent.

Not having the welding equipment, or the skill to use it if one could borrow it, would seem like a perfectly good reason (to me anyway) for not doing the job oneself.

hi after putting a stone through my sump at the weekend i have spent hours looking and in the end rang caterham who pointed me to redline components who did a brand new short sump with short pick up pipe for £160

hi, yep...got that info already last night via the caterham section here.

i was offered one there...totally crap...it looked as it came straight out of a cows ass!!

botched welding, dented, rusty, not shortened enough, mising pipe and on top a high price, compared what you pay from redline.

but in the meanwhile, also last night, i sourced one locally. looks like new, perfectly baffled, spot-on welding and enlarged throughout the complete length of the engine...58,-€ incl. shipping sounds a bargain.

Tiger Sports cars or Racing in Peterborough do them for the Zetec, not sure about your cross flow. Don't have their website to hand but I'm sure Mr Google will let you have it.
