i have had quite a few kit cars some with registration plates already on, some on a Q reg and some on age related plates and some that i have sva ed. my question is i am looking into buying an old lotus 7 type but it has old style T reg. T being to the far right and still retaining its escort description is this registration still aceptable and will it be ok for mot?

If the V5 says it's an Escort and it isn't it's not correctly registered.

I'm fairly sure there was a period when you could get this sorted no questions asked before the rules came in. Nowadays it's a case of falling on the DVLAs mercy armed with old MOTs etc I think. Someone cleverer than me will be along shortly... smile

Exactly as Ferg says.

If you go to buy it then treat it as an unfinished kit and price it from there.
There was an amnesty on incorrectly registered kit cars and to be fair to the DVLA it ran for a number of years. This is officially now well and truly over. However...... You just might be able to persuade the local DVLA to re register it correctly without having to submit the car for an IVA test (Which it almost certainly will not pass without some major modifications).

Best of luck. wink

thanks for the info, i didnt realise there was amnesty and even that it was now over. shame though as there must be lots of kits out there with basically useless registrations

Oh yes.

It can be a mine field, but armed with the info you now have you shouldn't have a problem.
