Discussion
Anyone know if these: http://www.stackltd.com/instruments.html#Electric would pass the 'sharp edges' rules under IVA ?
thanks

Is it not the case of if it is behind the steering wheel and can't be reached by the examiners 'mushroom shaped tool!' then a 2.5mm rad is ok?
Yes there is the exclusion zone.Basically increase the radius of the steering wheel by 127mm and you have zone A (little more complicated but will do for now) Zone B is the dash from the edge of zone A out to the A post. (Same caveat)
Anything on the dash or column in the zone is exempt from sharp edge rule.
Cramming everything in behind the wheel may be OK for this rule but if you can't see vital instruments I would not be surprised if the inspector fails it.
This zone, and the problems with aftermarket steering wheels, is why some will fit the donor steering wheel for IVA. (You could hide a double decker bus behind a Sierra wheel).

They'll be fine, 100's of cars have passed with them fitted. Great choice too.
Are you saying these gauges do have a suitable 2.5mm radius or do not stick out more than 3.2mm?If you are not sure then you could be commiting someone to an expensive mistake with an offhand 'They'll be fine'.

The link takes you to the gauges. If you then click 'Download manual' you can see a side diagram.
If I'm interpreting the proportions correctly then no they will not pass. They appear to protrude more than 3.2mm and therefore must have a radius of 2.5mm.

It's hard to tell from those diagrams so I've sent off an email to them to see if they can tell me.If I'm interpreting the proportions correctly then no they will not pass. They appear to protrude more than 3.2mm and therefore must have a radius of 2.5mm.

I want them for my Westfield which of course has a flat dash. I think the Westfield factory still use VDO Vision but they pad their dashes - I would prefer to avoid having to do that. Also I'll only have a small steering wheel so there's only room for tacho/speedo behind it.
I'll see if Stack get back to me with any info.
