Sorry to say there is going to be no opportunity to say MX5 in this thread guys.

Right, after becoming bored of the great weather and no car, I've decided that I need to get some sort of spartan, light weight, smiple kit. I don't mind if it's the 7 shape or the curvier sylva style, I would prefer the latter however.

My budget is about 5k-6k, for this I would consider anything up to 2.0 maybe 2.1 if its a pinto and bike engines.

If you'd posted in the kit-car section, the chances of that would have been reduced.

Do a search in there MBS, 'tis a topic that has been done many many times and it will help you hone your question to someone a bit easier to answer.

You should get a Fisher Fury for that, I think.

They say you can build it for £2k (once you've sold the leftover bits of MX5, so you could make a very nice one for your budget.

What about a Sylva Riot or a MK Indy?

If you can find an Autotune Gemini, that would be a great option.

Get yourself to Stoneleigh at the end of the month. See what takes your fancy and there's normally a load of secondhand cars too.

I'll be putting my Sylva up for sale shortly, just as soon as I can get my ass into gear and get it MOT'd for the summer. See pic on my profile.

It would be comfortably within your budget (...enough left over for a couple of weeks in the sun, in fact). Give me a shout if you're interested.

Fair-play Sam. I do like the Clubmans. As an aside, any idea what happened to the moulds for the front-end? I see a lot of the RGB guys running Furies/Phoenix adding spoilers that basically take the shape back to something akin to the original Clubmans.

It's 1630cc (allowable overbore tolerance for the 750 club racing class it was originally built to compete in). The engine was built by East Lincs Motorsport (the outfit that Jeremy Phillips used to use himself for his race engines) to the old 750 MC Class A (single carb) rules, but has since been fitted with twin Webers and set up by Dave Bogg. Dave reckoned it was a very strong engine for a Crossflow, but I wouldn't like to quote power outputs as I suspect his rolling road is quite optimistic... the car was climbing off the rollers at an indicated 155bhp, but then the same dyno gave 125bhp at the wheels for a friends GSXR1100 bike engine, which I don't really believe either!

From memory (so don't hold me to every detail)... its on a Kent 244 cam, Lotus pistons, duplex timing chain, dual valve springs, steel rocker posts/roller rockers, baffled sump, oil cooler and electronic ignition. Rev limit is 7,800rpm.

My understanding from speaking to Jeremy Phillips some years ago on this matter is that Chris Appleby buggered up the moulds for the 'downforce' bonnet when he briefly held the project, by cutting off the return lips on the wheelarches and trailing edge; Jeremy grumbled that he didn't understand why Chris Appleby had done this, but it seems likely he (Chris) just didn't properly understand the process of fibreglass moulding too well.

OH MY WORD!! That is nice...I'm going to have to try and get to this Stoneleigh thing if I can get out of this shop.
