Hello,
my uprights seems good with no visible cracks, one tube (on the photo) is missing and the other is rusted, are they here to protect the pivot pin or to reinforce the alloy upright? I think the tubes are bonded ?( not tried to remove the old one)
Also I need some shims between the steel wishbone and alloy upright, what is better?
Thanks
Chris

The tubes pictured are not original...some previous owner fitted them.
For the upper shim, I place many small shims in order to make small changes in the adjustment. When I have everything the way I want it, I remove the shims, measure the thickness and machine one solid alloy shim.

Thanks,
for the shims,is it possible to use some nylon or similar?
I think the uprights are old ( 64 perhaps?), but at the moment I am trying to refit the rear suspension, for racing in the future it is better to buy new ones, but where?

4 places I'd consider getting them. PM if you wanna know. On is Heightswitch's castings, sure he will explain more. you then need the machining and internals (think Heights are Jag), you may or may not need new drive shafts depending on which internals you use.

Don't expect them to be cheap all in and on the car. So is it a Griff or a Grantura you have?

PM send,
the car is not a Tvr smile, but use some Tvr parts on the IRS version( rigid version has Riley axle) like différential, upright, drive shaft, only the wishbones are slighty different.
It is an Elva with Mgb 1800 engine, gearbox, similar weight as a Grantura, could be a good fast road car when completed silly and is also homologated in GT for race use .

aha. If not a monster power Griff, I'd be tempted to either contact David Gerald or talk to Neil (height) about stronger uprights, if they do not have to be a very close looking copy of the original (but beefed up where required I'd go to Neil).

Huge Power Griffs there is 2 places that I'd go (both BONKERS money - but really needed in my honest opinion) + Neil (but they look less like the original so fia weirdo mob might not like them so much!

I would not use anything "soft or crushable". Stick with alli.

Shims - do you mean to space out the bottom rod to the wishbone? If so alloy or I have used steel machined in mine (4 all very slightly different lengths to get all spot on).

Great looking thing - that is some tyre upgrade!

Machined Steel or ali will work, nothing easily squashable.

With Tyres like that, the increased grip levels are going to cause a lot of mechanical stress to the suspension arms (wishbones) and driveshafts/differential inc mountings. I would make sure that everything including the uprights is 100% and suitably uprated.

no stress on mine, my rear suspension is original ( but a bit incomplete I know!! ) like the second pic only the wheels are not standard, révolution 13" 4X108 front and rear, not the modified sebring car on the first pic (on this car 195BHP seem also crazy with an Mgb engine rolleyes)I could be very happy with only 120 or 130bhp for fast road use with the parts I have!

I have heard some frankly barking claims for MGB engine - 210bhp from a 1950!

I think there is alot of wishful thinking here. The head design is horrible, not X-flow, not 8 port and can onlt run one webber.

Fiscracer will be along soon to tell me ai am talking cobblers though and an MG will spank a TR4 pot smilewink
