Taimar has an opening tailgate ie it has 3 doors therefore more practical . Apart from that body , mechanicals , engines are identical ....

A Taimar has therefore more places to leak and rattle than a M.

Yes, a Taimar may have more possibilities for leaks, particularly if you let the seals go without replacement when needed, and more possibilities for
rattles(from the rear hatch), but rattles can be
dealt with and I'd much rather have the improved accessibility from my Taimar than wrestle with getting things in and out of the luggage area of an M without the hatch, which I had to deal with in my three previous M's prior to the Taimar.

Well, apart from the hatch, from memory:-

Battery located differently because of different heater.

Dashboard controls for said heater different. i.e different layout to accommodate less crude heater on the Taimar. Body of heater protrudes into passenger footwell.

Subtle differences to moulding in area of front wheelarchs on main body.

That's all I can think of at the mo.

Paul.

I could be wrong, but between my Taimar and a friend’s 3000M, the rear is different below the number plate. On the Taimar the area between the bumpers is squared off, on the 3000M the rear curves directly down the body to the bottom of the car

Here are some pictures where you can see the difference mentioned in my last post

Also the taimar has no gaps between rear bumpers and body work, and as a previous poster mentioned the heating and ventilation systems are very different.

Also the rear of the front inner arches on the body are different along with bumper fixings on the front.

Other posters have noted most (if not all the other differences)

Taimars have distinct maintenance advantages (try getting a fuel tank out of an M and you'll know what I mean), but the tailgates can rattle and let in exhaust fumes if not sealed correctly.

Just remembered. Some Taimars (early ones?) have two vents on the tailgate just to the rear of the glass.
