rear exhaust mounting
Discussion
Mine just had a rubber bobbin in place of the rusty spacer, direct onto the horizontal bar. Don't have any pics of it before I dismantled it. However, unless it was perfectly aligned before fitting it would shear off quickly ending up with the exhaust pipes scraping on the road (happened twice before I got the hang of it). At least with Philpott's arrangement if the rubber bobbins fail (less likely since there's 2) then the hanger sits on the bracket and stops the pipes hitting the floor.

Hahaha a plastic milk bottle space would do and wouldn't rust hehehe
it'll be the weekend job now but I can fabricate a bracket from the horizontal bar to chassis. :-)
Mikes only got that because thats one of my brackets, fitted for a previous owner (albeit normally mounted without the rusty spacer), You could of course purchase one!!it'll be the weekend job now but I can fabricate a bracket from the horizontal bar to chassis. :-)

The rubber bobbins rarely fail (I won't say never) because they are under compression rather than tension.

I remember being told that the small 'cotton reel' type insulators are not designed for weight pulling them, and they come apart pretty quick. They should be mounted so they are under compression. (as Adrian says above)
Mine has a home made bracket and two of these insulators and is still fine. Insulators sit above the flat chassis strip and bracket loops around to support pipes. A bugger to get on and off, but works well. Original exhaust was bolted straight to the strip !!
