Used rimmers for trunnions and other parts... anyway bought some track rod ends and after two months and 600 miles... they've split!!!

Also turned all rusty...

:-(

However I've rang them and told me to post to them and they'll replace...

Has anybody ever had problems before?

When i received them they looked 'not brilliant' but didn't expected t them to split. looks like old stock and perished rubber.

This is very common today unfortunately..Most crap supplied is chines origin and poor quality these days..sourced for very little because people don't want to spend more than a tenner on a part.

The days of good old Stanpart are long gone.

Yes. I had exactly the same problem. In my case the rubber boots perished within 6m. Same source.

Unfortunately this is true for a lot of parts I had the pleasure receiving, sometimes they look tatty to start with but do the job (for a little while)and then you buy new ones, so where is the gain in that ?
It is utterly pathetic the skills of making proper automotive parts in Europe is disappearing, and makes you wonder what the classic scene will look like in the years to come..........

Tbh i have spare set which i could use the dust covers from but its the principle... delivered i think was around £25 for tatty crap.

However I'll have to see how they fair up in the problem exchange then see what my opinion is.

Have people had them replaced without much problems?

Oddly enough I have just serviced the front end on my vixen and the problem I seem to have with my new rod ends is that they are really stiff compared to the originals. I have tried to loosen them up and re-grease them to see if that makes a difference.

Before I re-built the chassis and added these new ones, the steering was nice and light. Now it is stiff and does not self centre well and I believe these rod ends are the cause. If they do not lighten up I will refurb and put the old ones back on with new rubbers.

From what I have seen on forums a lot of people have this issue with crap rod ends......as well as other chinese made crap!

Actually the supplier was quite applogetic and replaced them straight away. I imagine I was not the first person with this issue.

The guy (Paul) on the phone didn't seem to argue or anything... it did give me the impression that this isn't uncommon. Anyway I'll prob take them off tonight or tomorrow and send them off recorded.
