Hi, I recently purchased a set of unpainted T-slots in fairly good condition,to replace the previously powder coated ones that came with my Taimar, but the alloy is a little dull. I have scrubbed them with wire wool, and polished with T-cut, but they do not really shine! Is there any recomended product that works, or is it just elbow grease?!
Thanks
Clive.

Autosol? I used Scotchbrite as opposed to wire wool to get the oxidisation off. Come to think of it i've just used Brasso in the past.

I used wet/dry sand paper to clean them. Started with maybe 400 to cut fast and then used finer and finer(2000) to smooth. Finished with a lot of polishing. They look great but it is a lot of work.

If polished be careful of what you use to clean them. Some automotive cleaners will tarnish them as soon as you spray it on.

Thanks for the advice, I really hoped that there might be some spray-on-wipe-off solution, but I suppose we are all looking for that!!...........!
Off to the motor factors for a tin of elbow grease then.

Clive.

I wish there was a wipe on/wipe off fix. I think I may use a clear coat if I polish another set.

I second the use of sandpaper to brighten your wheels. I cleaned my tarnished T-Slots with 220 grit and progressed to 800. I put in about 12 hours of cleaning but it is well worth it when done. I also touched up the "T"'s with some black testors paint. 5 years on and they still look great. I put a coat of wax on them to protect from oxidation and keep the shine. Dont use alum. wheel cleaner on them. As others have said it will spot and discolor them and you will be back to square one. They are sweet looking wheels!
