Taimar tailgate woes
Discussion
The solenoid operating the tailgate has stopped working.
It could be a wiring issue as it worked OK until some wiring work was done recently but the unit does look 'past its best'to say the least.
Does anyone know what car they were off and/or where I can get one from?
Also does anyone know how it is wired.
Many thanks.

The earth for this is taken from the shell bracket in front of the fuel tank AND ultimately outside the car, where the washer and digs into the chassis ...replace the nut and washer with a nut washer and serrated washer once you have cleaned up the chassis at that point. The solenoid is a dry magnet type and ANY lubrication seize it, remove the 'bullet' and clean it and test it separately. Adrian@

Thanks for that. It looks like it is the unit that has given up due to old age!Hormone said:

Have you tried putting a direct 12v feed to it see if its the solenoid or the wiring. Commonest fault I have found in my limited experience is the push button in B postIt could be a wiring issue as it worked OK until some wiring work was done recently but the unit does look 'past its best'to say the least.

Sorted now. thanks for your help. I traced it back to the front of the car where some wires had been disconnected.Cheers.

Out of Tesco Thursday evening, trolley full. "Nice car" says the attractive lady who's just parked next to me, "thankyou" say I as I nonchalantly press the tailgate release button .....and again .... and again .... nothing. Shopping indignantly loaded through passenger door (just like having an M
)Button is crimped together but it can be opened, contacts totally cruded up, all cleaned back together and working like new

Would never have happened if you'd gone to Sainsbury's.

The joys of classic car ownership are many and varied.
Sadly most involve spanners, cable ties, gaffer tape and an AA card!
