Chassis strengthening tips for the M
Discussion
The pictures show aditional triangulation to the centre structure. I think a cage would add far more than the additions I can see from the pictures. The loads come in from the tyre contact patch and are resisted at the maximun moment, the cage fixings.
A cage fastened at several points around the structure would mimic a monocoque.
Attention to the cage fixing points is worthwhile. Motorsport fixings often use a taper male cage spigot and wedge female within the tube, rather than a plate/nut and bolt.
Colin.

I vaguely remember posting a link, in a much older thread, to a study that showed results from various methods implemented on a newer TVR chassis. As I recall, the car was a racer, and the study was done for a Uni project.
My feeble memory has a shadow of a recollection about it being the (Cerb?) racer that went down under.

I'm lead to believe Mike Bigland, the M chassis designer, is attending the M meet this year.
Now he would be worth talking to on this subject.
I think the chassis is pretty good as it is.
I was going to suggest Viagra in the fuel, but everyone is far to serious these days.
Mike will indeed be there. Now he would be worth talking to on this subject.

Steve,
I guess you will shot blast the chassis before you start work?
I also assume from your ph name you have TIG welding equipment.
First strengthening tip from me is go over all the existing welds, back grind if required, and TIG them with 309 or 304 wire.
Mine were like an Aero bar, whoever welded them had run out of shield gas but carried on anyway!

I tried, it just kept asking for login details.
Doesn't the "clicky" take you straight to it, no need for login? As for the merits of TVRCC membership, I'll not get drawn into that one. Some love it, some think it a total waste of money.
Try it , make your own descision
