Having twice this year been turned away from TVRCC events by the "TVR,s only ere mate" brigade I had an amusing weekend at Silverstone Classic this weekend. I was walking back to my car to get my driving licence for the signing on for the parade farce (no I didn,t get mine during the war without passing my test) and overheard 3 chappies walking away from my car. So what model is that? Its one of those old ones! We had an old one come to one of our local meetings but it wasn,t like that , it was a brown one. That must have been a really early one then. Owner said it was one of the first, about 30 years old. Really. Ironically 2 of said chappies were proudly sporting their TVR 50 years of motorsport T shirts. I was going to ask if it meant the first 50 years given that Trevor did his first hillclimb in 1951 or the last 50 years but I thought better of it.
Then had an enlightening chat with owner who was trying to convince me he had an example of a car TVR never made. Never has been there got the T shirt been so wrong. Evening Andy!!
Evesdropping on the "chair behind the car all day type". Which model is this then? Its a Cerbera, the coupe version of the Chimaera. only made to special order, this one is special, it has the ski pack, special boot to take ski,s and of course the switchable traction control for the snow. Easily does 193 mph 4 up. Its got the V8 , never fitted a V8 in the convertible 4 seater.
What funny conversations have you had or overheard?

In 2004 I bought a M with 6" longer doors and a differently shaped bonnet and tailgate than standard. I'd heard a long established business in the Worcestershire area claimed to have the original factory body moulds and I wondered if they also had the ones for mine. I called and explained that I understood the car was the works prototype of the Taimar and described the doors to them.
His reply and I'm not exaggerating: "Let me stop you sir, if the doors were six inches longer than standard they wouldn't fit in the body, now would they?" I thanked him for the advice and rung off.
Colin.

Steve,
Most owners are relatively new to the marque and only see Wedges onwards so know what the 80's to date cars are but rarely see S's, M's, Vixen, Grantura, original Griffs etc so really have no clue what they are. There are also a lot of owners who don't do much club stuff so get little TVR exposure, not sure they are even club members, so don't get Sprint either. It's a pity there aren't more of the older models attending meets. I know you use the Grantura but there's not many of the older ones about, in fact the WWM there are very few Griffs now and only a couple fo Wedges too so its all Cerbs, Chimps Sags and T cars. Still got the Taimar after 22 years but needs a full rebuild know and haven't got the time or money to do it, but would love to get it back on the road.
I hear a lot of BS about the cars and TBH its too much bother to try and correct people sometimes. I followed a guy over the bridge on Saturday and I heard him say "oh, here's the unreliable TVR's" so as I walked past I said "not as unreliable as you think" and carried on walking back to my 250k mile Griff. Another anecdotal pub conversation by a load of BMW diesel drivers no doubt.

Chap at the pre-80s meeting a couple of years back, came up to Martin Lilley and me and told us he had the prototype 3000S, as "once owned by Martin Lilley, who used to own TVR before Peter Wheeler"."Wow, he used to own TVR? I bet you'd like to meet Martin", I said. "Yep, if I got the chance" he replied.
"Martin, this chap would like to meet you".....
There was a large thud as his jaw hit the ground; the dent in the tarmac is still there, I beleive.

That weekend was the higlight of my event year (but very close to Zolder) but saddened to be one of i think only 4 pre 80s cars to turn up where are they
maybe if the Gamekeeper finished his Taimar Roadster (3000s) there could of been another as not sure how they both got in the Grantura they could have had one each however the car is beautiful well done
hi
The Racing was fantastic especially the F1 from the pit wall???
Also meeting a ledgend for the first time i knew i should have known who was chatting to me sooner but i guess 2 minuets was not to bad and a realy pleasant chat for half an hour i was on
thank you Martin your a ledgend
Maybe if more people saw the heratage we are so lucky to have in our older TVRs then they would not all be going abroad where they deserve them as they seem to value them more and use them more concidering the size of the Zolder event at least 10per cent of the cars there where pre 80s.
Roll on next years event will look forward to taking the Taimar Roadster (3000s) to the pre 80s in september
