Taimar Tailgate struts.
Discussion
Hi All,
I am new to the TVR ( everyones different!!!) restoration game but have dabbled in, my wife reckons, eleven build from scratch vehicles of some sort or another. Now I purchase a 1978 TVR taimar for a restoration project and find I am in a sort of limbo or neverland. No one seems to know if the seats are from a particular car either standard or altered by the Blackpool Boyos or what car the tailgate struts were taken from. There were no struts with the car when bought so I don't want to guess at the pressure/poundage or the length of same.
If anyone out there has any answers to these two questions I would be grateful to hear from them. Or any suggestions would be appreciated. Urine extraction seems to be a part of the forum so if it is of a high quality it will be accepted in the lighthearted manner, hopefully, in which it was intended.
Cheers in anticipation of favorable replies.

Replaced mine (they wouldn't hold the tailgate up) with a pair from www.sgs-engineering.com
part No.GS8-18-210-270
Originals (?) made by Industrial Gas Springs Ltd, they are still trading but wanted, if I recall correctly, about the same money to re-gas and with no gaurantee because of the age of them!

Very best of luck with the Taimar project. Not meaning to take the mick, but have you tried the specialists for parts and advise? These cars may look like a collections of random parts extracted from other suppliers and in effect that's what they are, but you'll not save much, if any money trying to buy direct as many of the parts were modified by TVR. If you haven't already, speak to Adrien Venn of Exactly TVR if you need parts, he's been very helpful on my stalled 3000m rebuild.....
The seats are modified TR6 seats I think but with TVRs own trimming.
Cheers Paul

Sorry to hijack. Mine have the strength but found the fittings are worn, the threaded plastic parts bolted to the body
The struts from SGS came with alluminiun ends but to tolerate any mis-alignment I changed them for some little spherical joints.I just got my Taimar (1 days ago) from Germany to US... Chicago.
I think, I am through the headache with customs and DMV - will see soon.
Looking into things that need to be done. The first thing - the gas springs for the hatch, they do not work anymore.
I have one of the old once at the front of me: SUSPA 350 N, but no item No. - nothing.
So... any advise for US located TVR drivers?
Geetings,
Marek

Just found the covering letter on my computer I sent with one of my old struts to SGS, I'd calculated my old ones that would not quite hold the tailgate up as about 300 newtons, so I'd guess the 350N in your part number is the "strength" so simply a case of finding a US supplier and quoting that and all the dimensions!So... any advise for US located TVR drivers?
Good luck
ETA just Googled "Suspa"..... clicky
