Question about 2500M steering rack. My rack is worn out, so I'm thinking about going with a quick ratio rack. Will a TR6 or Spitfire rack work, or is the mounting differant.

The Mitsubishi evo is a quick rack, might be worth looking into

Thanks Alex, just checked out the mitsu racks. They all look like power racks and the mounting would require plenty mods to make fit. I can get the Triumph racks with 2.5 turns lock to lock new for 230.00USD. From what I can see the mounts are the same, just don't know about the distance between them.

Will rimmers post to the usa? I don't know the current conversion rate but might be worth a look into.

Vixen parts list says the rack is an ordinary Spitfire/Herald rack, for which, I believe, high ratio racks are available.

Also, rack mounts were discussed some time ago, this might help:

Why not rebuild it?

I've got a vixen S4, needed a new rack for it. Had problems sorting the correct one so had a refurb done. Asked the refurbers Kierly Clintons in Birmingham to quicken it up. They've done a great job, steering not too heavy but it is so direct it's scarey 1st time you use in anger.
Clintons do refurbs for race and rally teams especially grp 4 escorts and they ship all over the world. Really nice people to deal with.

M-series originally used a Triumph 2000/2.5PI rack, which differed from the TR6 rack as it had longer track rods.

A TR6 quick-rack using your original track rods will do nicely. As you have a local price (USA), you are nearly sorted or try http://www.the-roadster-factory.com/indexmain.php for a comparison.

By asking on here, you get the the usual side-tracking with 'Rimmers' 'Vixen' and 'Mitsubishi'

wink

Yeah my info was triumph 2000 but was sent a different designed rack twice then I lost patience and took original to kierly. Everything inside the casing was refurbed or renewed cost me £134. And I knew there would be no fitting problems cos it was my original casing.

Did some researching and called Moss about the rack. It looks like the only differance will be the shorter track rods. This should be a good thing as I plan on using rod ends in place of the track rod ends. The rack comes with the alloy mounts so it looks like a fair deal. I'll try to get some photos posted of the build when it all comes together. Thanks again for the help.
