Finally finished fitting laminate to my hallway and front room and put the old carpet in my garage on the floor so the Tvr is parked on it, also so when Im tinkering Im not knelt on a cold floor.



However... My worry is, after a good hooning will the exhaust be an issue with melting the carpet and cause a fire?


Worst case Im happy to cut a hole where the exhaust are near the floor/middle box :-)

I seriously doubt the exhaust would be anywhere near hot enough to do any harm?

Wool carpet won't burn, woollen clothing was favoured by race drivers in the old days before "Nomex" etc appeared.

I've dropped red hot metal on nylon carpet, it melts and smokes a bit but didn't ignite.

Hi mate, I did the same thing, used an old carpet from a bedroom that did the job of keeping a bit of the cold out when I was working in the garage. Never had a problem with hot exhaust pipes smoldering or burning. It did get a bit scabby in the end so ditched it and carpeted the whole garage with B&Q carpet tiles. I had looked at www.daytonaflooringuk. something or other. Very nice showroom type tiles but cost an absolute fortune. Hence the B&Q tiles.

Just got home after a nice run late at night and decided to wrap a piece around the down pipe. Needless to say all it did was get warm. But by warm was no where near hot to touch, i had my hand holding the carpet for a good 2 mins so now after testing, Im not worried.


Plus side after cleaning the alloys with autosol, my knees, bum and legs don't hurt and are cold :-)
